I have no answers for this myself. I suffer from insomnia quite frequently (almost every damn night) and it's very frustrating. I suppose having a bit of white noise can be helpful to some. I like to turn the TV on and put it on the history channel... Though I usually end up with WWII dreams. o_O Or I just turn up my speakers on my PC and turn on iTunes. Nice soothing metal... Mmm metal. <3
If that works for you... I find it hard to sleep with even the slightest noise. I wish I had a soundproof room.... mmmmmmm
I've lived next to a highway since I was very young. I get a bit unnerved when I can't hear any noise.

White noise is my solution, just turn on the tv and put the sleep timer on and lay there not watching. Usually that does the trick for me.

You are a teenager who can't sleep between 10-12 pm.. YOU DO NOT HAVE FUCKING INSOMNIA! every teenager is like that, it's like that on a biological level, different ages have different sleep patterns, trust me, insomnia is when you can't sleep for fucking DAYS, not between 1-2 hours. god-dammit.

That would be weird. My neighbors have a young child that enjoys crying at the time i'm usually trying to sleep. It really doesn't help.

Calm down. I cant sleep the whole night if I go to bed to TRY to sleep between 10 - 12pm. In the last 2 days I haven't slept more that 1 - 2 hours.

I would say don't sleep for a day or two. I know you said you odn't want to do that, but it tends to work for most people.

I haven't overcome my problem. I takes some really strong and expensive pills to knock me out and Im not paying the money. I usually fall asleep a few days after my insomnia kicks in though and get a good 20 hours of sleep.
I say that you just wait until your brain can't take anymore and shuts itself down. It works for me.
If you're gaming late at night, try leaving an hour or so gap between when you turn off and when you hit the sack. Or..

Are you eating a lot of sugar and not burning it off? It'll keep you up. I know, I've had it myself.

Define can't sleep (for yourself). I know that sounds dumb, but a lot of different things could be going on. Maybe you have an overactive mind which can be over come by some simple mental techniques. Over anxiousness? that can be helped by meds and some nonmed stress relief. You could always try some warm tea that has chamomile (this should go without saying, but make sure it has no caffeine). Some people sleep better after a hot shower or a warm cup of milk/cocoa. There are tons of ways to help you get to sleep, but they all involve you identifying why it is that you can't get to sleep.

That could be the problem... I generally lose track of time while playing and then realize i have to go to bed in 5 minutes.

Hmm... Overactive mind sounds likely. Its like my mind just won't shut up. After a while its like I'm dreaming but i know I'm still awake. I found myself exploring physics problems in my head the night before last. wtf.

I understand your frustration; I'm an insomniac as well. I've tried everything and almost nothing works (not even sleeping pills). One thing that works sometimes is watching episodes of *insert TV show here* online with a fan blowing on you (especially if it's on your face, makes your eyes drier).
But in all honesty, I smoke weed and play video games for about an hour before I go to bed. Probably not what you want to do, but it's had a 100% success rate in my experience.

But IS it insomnia? Because people mistake insomnia for not sleepy all the time.
Insomnia means you can't sleep, even though you are exhausted and really really want to sleep.

I a medically diagnosed insomniac. I used to take medication for it. I recommend reading a book for a while until you feel sleepy or turn on some soft music. Here, try this album, it helps me:
http://www.amazon.com/M4/dp/B0010CGXRG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1248138704&sr=8-1

I send you an amazon link because you can sample it there. Try the song Sleepwalker to start with.

EDIT: It's the M4 LP by Faunts.

I have an overactive mind as well. Often times to get to sleep I have to imagine nothing and keep my mind on a white wall. It helps. It is essentially like meditating, but since your not grounding yourself you end up falling asleep. It takes time and practice. Sometimes I still don't sleep right depending on what it is that keeps popping in to my head. In that case I take imagine the white wall then chase that with some Nyquil (recommended dosage).
