I have recently grown very fond of instrumental music. The lack of a vocalist and lyrics really enhances these songs for me. I mean listen to this

Its so epic and badass. Too many songs with lyrics end up having a message or being preachy. Either that or they're completely stupid or love songs.

Instrumental music has none of that, just badass sounds.

What do you guys think of instrumental music. Do you prefer lyrics in a song?

if done correctly, instrumental music is pure genius and can fit any situation.
I'm pretty sure you can't find one European football stadium that hasn't played Dario G - Carnival De Paris to get the fans excited

Depends on the music, generally. If I ever permenantly get hit with the Metal-music bug, I would want most vocalists to...."Gee Tee Ef Oh" out my headbanging session.

Take this gem, for example.

Now on the flip side keeping that same genre, there are songs solely carried on their lyrical content.
All I can really give is my favourite examples when heading into these subject-tivities, since it doesn't matter either way.

Instrumental music actually sounds the opposite of bad-ass. Good-ass? It's just music without any feeling or passion. And being here in The Escapist , I'm predicting accurately everyone'll mention some obscure instrumental metal band

I prefer lyrics in a song that's obviously meant to have them, such as:

But instrumentals are great too, like

Good music should be able to speak on its own without having a human voice.

Music like Buckethead's solo work, orchestral music, symphonies, etc.

The real passion is in the music in decent instrumental pieces. They're self-speaking, their message gets across and the feelings and emotion should always be there.

Music like the Fugue in G Minor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MJ4zONNaVU&feature=search

That's actually one of my most favorite songs of all times.

Or Bolero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUB2E71HDpQ&feature=search

If you're not into classical, there's still good instrumentals out there.

The Awakening by Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-7u9OW6iGU&feature=search

Shimmy She Wobble by Otha Turner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxDemDZWktM&feature=search

I think... yes, I'm pretty sure I have never disagreed with ANYTHING anyone has ever said in these forums more than this post. There aren't words to express just how wrong you are.

How anyone could listen to those and conclude there is no feeling or passion in instrumental music is a concept I find utterly baffling - have you not ears?!

I've loved instumentals from the very beginning which is probably why I love so much classical music. However, all my favourite songs have great melodics I like to sing to or incite words so well it sends a shiver to my spine.

So yeah, I probably prefer lyrics a little more until I find a instrumental that competes against shit like Karn Evil 9 and Closer to the Edge.

I only just found my first instrumental band. And So I Watch You From Afar is so mad, I very much like their sound. It's not something I can listen to non-stop though, but it's still pretty mad.

I am rather fond of the Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky
Course thats probably because it has an awesome bassoon part and I play the bassoon.

this is the version that most people know

P.S. any instrumental piece that incites a riot is automatically an ipod favorite

Instrumental music can be amazing, The LoTR soundtrack is definate proof of this.

That was the first time I enjoyed the soundtrack more than the film.

A lot of the stuff I listen to doesn't have lyrics, but I'm not sure it counts as instrumental, since it's mostly made on computers.

I do like lyrics, though. Because I like singing.
