Insurance companies have always-ALWAYS tried to weasel their way out of paying for things that they were insuring against. Insurance is a scam, through and through.

My medical insurance company that I'm required to have (school requires that I at least have insurance) tried to deny my medical coverage because my drivers license had my middle initial, but the docs forwarded in from the pharmacy did not. THEN after that, they tried to deny my prescriptions because I had to get the name brand stuff. "We can cover for the generic brands." Yeah, well, the companies that made the generic brand have not existed for the past two years; they went under. It took a LOT of effort, but I eventually got through their bull.

Ya know something similar happened when new Orleans flooded. All those insurance companies decided they weren't going to pay for all the houses that were actually insured. Makes sense though if they did they would go bankrupt. Still though there should be some crime for making a security blanket that only keeps you warm when your not using it.
Insurance policies generally have clauses in them saying they don't cover major disasters. Doing otherwise would be fraud, since they would be taking money for a service they could not deliver.

Ahh that makes sense although it does kinda make it hard to make use of a policy like flood insurance.

Not really. Can't think of the name of it at the moment, but houses with basements are at a high risk of flooding because if something breaks, it could fill with water rather quickly.

Not that that's a problem in Florida, but eh. I think insurance is worthless anyway. If it wasn't required by law, I wouldn't even have any. Actually, they want me to pay so much for car insurance that I might even cancel it and just go without...and pray I don't get pulled over by a cop.

Typical insurance company, trying every little angle to get out of paying out for something.

They have to be the greediest bunch of douches on the planet, they utterly rip you off charging obscene amounts of cash for all the kinds of insurance then when something does happen and you need a claim they have a good read over your policy to make sure they have to pay out a tiny amount from what they have earned over the past year.

Tighter than a camels arse in a sand storm!

If I were a praying man I would pray for an insurance guy to one day need to claim and his insurance firm just say "sorry, we can't cover that, have a nice day" ...

Eh good, let Sony pay for their crappy security.
Can't really say that, the company who provide internet security for the USA government was also hacked, if anybody could have stopped themselves from getting hacked it would have been them.

Sounds to me Sony is going to be looking for a new insurance carrier. Might not be easy doing until Sony's new security provisions are tested in the waters.

You can expect there is the same escape clause in health insurance companies come when Obamacare comes into full fruition and then a disaster occurs and there are a multitude of claims made.
"Sorry, we can't afford to cover you. SOL, pal."

This is starting to feel like the year of the Bad Day for Corporations. First Sony, and then News Corp. Wonder who is next?

The insurance system is so broken. You pay them all this money to protect you, and then when it comes time to do their part they put the money to work making sure you don't see a bit of it. There should really be a law in place that insurance companies should have enough money stored (and not in their CEO's pockets) to pay for all the things they cover at any given time.

I think an insurance company NOT trying to dodge paying, would be more of a story.
I agree. every insurance claim I ever dealt with the insurer did everything it could to deny the claim. Insurance companies are the largest scams going today especialy auto insurance in places where you are forced to get it by law.

That's the insurance industry for you, folks: biggest sceam on EARTH! It's just unbelievable that our government requires us to get it by law in some circumstances...

... this is entirely reasonable and expected.
Certainly nowhere near as ridiculously scummy as health insurance.

I gotta agree with everyone in that insurers are cheating assholes. Every time you hear something and think 'Hey, it's insured, it'll be cool,' the insurance company weasels out of it. It's a huge travesty of justice how many cases insurers have scammed their way out of. Take for instance, Alison's shoulder injury. $15K surgery. And guess what? Insurance calls it a pre existing condition. Bastards.

K, someone most likely mentioned this by now, I happened to respond to the wrong link the last night. What I wrote then was, "So, when someone fails to drive a car properly, their insurance company shouldn't cover them?" The small flack I got was yeah, you fail, they
shouldn't cover you.
Bad wording I agree. But then, the only time a car "accident" happens is when one someone
fails to drive correctly. You get drunk and plow into a wall, a parked car, or(those were
the best cases) a family. Your insurance company is still going to have to pay out for
your screw up. That is why they get paid.
Now, we have Sony, drunk behind the wheel, with a blind spot. A random person standing on
the sidewalk tosses a wrench into their windshield. Suddenly they can't see, things go
careening out of control, and a lot of people get hurt in the process.
Normal process. The insurance company covers the damages, ups the premiums, and hopes that the person responsible for the wrench is found so they can extract a pound of flesh. That is the insurance game. It is kind of like Las Vegas. The Insurance company bets that nothing bad will happen before they make more money then they will have to pay out.
Guess what, something bad happened. As much as I have a deep seated problem with Sony(*cough*NGE*cough*); You want to know something? Read this one line in the article.

"Zurich, which wrote the policy for Sony Computer Entertainment of America"

They wrote it, they eat it. As the saying goes, "You make the bed, you sleep in it."

Did Sony screw up? Yes.
Is Zurich screwing up? In my opinion, yes.
Will what I have to say matter? Nope. Night folks.
