Mass Effect Genesis (the interactive comic for Mass Effect 1 we saw in the PS3 version) is now available to PC and 360 owners as a DLC. It's $3.99 for the PC, and 360 Microsoft points for the 360. It will affect Mass Effect 2 much like the comic did for the PS3 version.

What do you think? Is this something people were requesting?

Cool. I've wanted this for a while now, since the default for ME2 is the worst possible one. I wish it was free, but I have some MS points left that I haven't touched for about 5 months.

EDIT: Also I've been spoiled with ME2, and can't be arsed to replay through ME1.

well thats cool, its more of a "why not?"

if people don't have it or dont have access to the first/second game when the third one comes out, it's just a cool little "save editor" feature basically for the games.

and like the first post said if you don't import than the original start is the worst one.

This is a good idea. It'll allow you to create a save without having to play through the entire first game every time. I honestly think it would be better free, but if I'm looking to start a quick new game of Mass Effect without playing through the first one, it wouldn't kill me to drop 4 bucks.

I think it is a good idea for those who want to change their major decisions from Mass Effect 1 for a Mass Effect 2 import without having to replay the campaign. I got extremely bored of replaying ME1 over and over just to make one or two decision differences, and if it wasn't for the fact that I have finally done all the varieties I wanted, I'd buy it.

Bioware/EA were foolish not to release it earlier to be honest.

This seems completely pointless. 360 and PC users already have access to ME1, so what's the point? And don't tell me it's because people won't have to play through the first game. You'd be giving yourself a diservice not to play that game.

Besides, from what I heard the comic was pretty terrible.

It would have better if this came out before the game a la Dead Rising 2 Case 0 but still, it's not bad considering I accidentally deleted my ME1 save data

What if a person finds the gameplay of Mass Effect so unbearably terrible that they don't want to subject themselves to it for 20 odd hours?

I'm glad this has been released. It means I can finally see Wrex and the old council in Mass Effect 2

Awesome, I was wondering if we would get to see that on the 360/PC as well! Now to go download it.

They're charging for this? I don't see why they can't just release it for free over the cerberus network or something(Microsoft points are such a rip-off). if I have some points left over I might consider it. It would be better than constantly having to play through the first game over, and over again just to make one different decision.

In which case, I doubt you'd even be interested in Mass Effect 2.

Besides, if you're just going to use what is essentially a glorified save editor going into the game for the first time, you're doing both games a disservice by ignoring the experience and impact that those decisions would hold. It's a much greater experience having something you actually did come up, not something you simply chose from a list.

Aren't gonna something like this be in Mass Effect 3 covering Mass Effect 1 AND 2?

Why would I pay extra for a poor version that what I will get in Mass Effect 3 anyway?

Incorrect. Completed it twice. Disliked the first game.

I'm not made of spare time. I'd rather spend the time I do have playing a game I actually enjoy. Why limit the amount of choices for people who don't want to play the first game, just because you personally aren't interested in it?

So you want to change some minor thing, you'd prefer needing to replay a quite long RPG rather than sit through a comic?

Honestly even if you did prefer that it doesn't matter, you can keep doing it while everyone else uses the comic. More on topic, it's a good comic, PC and 360 players will enjoy it. It doesn't explain everything but it gives a nice summary of the story. It doesn't explain why I should feel sorry for krogan even though every single one I've seen has either tried to kill me or been surrounded by heavily armed guards though, I'm still not clear on that...

I would hope that those interested would go through ME1, in order to feel more connected to the outcomes and interactions in ME2. However, creating and running a play-through of ME1 (perhaps 2 times if one wanted to re-do things) would suck up A LOT of time for someone who is just interested in trying out the critically acclaimed ME2. Having the option is better than what has existed before, so no arguments there. Still I would recommend those that are pre-disposed to enjoying the space opera RPG-ness of the mass Effect francise, should probably play-through the 1st one.

Also, I will say that observing the transition from ME1 (a game i adored, but still had complaints with) to ME2 (one of my favorite games of all time, where nearly all my criticisms of the 1st installment were remedied) was an amazing experience.

I am of the opinion that, unless you don't have Mass Effect, STAY AWAY FROM THIS. I think it's a waste of money. Don't get me wrong--I was very glad that it was included in the PS3 version because it allowed me to make my choices, but it is literally the bones of Mass Effect, nothing more. It doesn't even include one of the missions from the original game. It also cuts out so much stuff from Mass Effect 2 (Shiala, Conrad, the girl from Noveria) if you just use it instead of the game itself. I can understand if you just want to change one thing from Mass Effect, but I just think it's better to replay Mass Effect that sit through this.

Of course, I love story above all else, and seeing how things transfer over to Mass Effect 2--and how they didn't if you do the comic--colors my opinion greatly.
