i wanna do some painting and i was wondering if anybody out there can suggest an artist for me to study their technique. My piece has to do with the human mind and psychosis just to let you know. Oh and please suggest some off beat or different you know not Picasso or Van gogh. If you can please include pictures thank you.

I don't know much about artists, but one artist I remember doing something on was Hundertwasser so I will just throw him out there:

Fun fact, plenty of DeviantArt artists are, in fact, making their living as an artist.

About 2%.

I'd recommend checking out these artists:
Dave McKean
Dan Brereton
Ashley Wood
Ben Templesmith

Starting from the top. McKean's a very interesting artist, who's also done a few comics which makes him easy to get a hold of. Most famously he did the art for Arkham Asylum(the book, not the game) and the art in that particular book really cements the insanity of the asylum so to speak.

He's one of those few artists who can mix... pretty much everything into the mix and make it work.

I actually recent that. I'm an artist and have a deviant-account. There are quite a few talented people on there, once you make your way through the fanart and furries.

Well I'll just throw out George Grosz. I find his work to be pretty interesting. So interesting that I used one of his paintings as an avatar for a while.

Don't know if you'll like him but I figured I'd put in my sugguestion (or whatever you'd call it).

I know, I've seen some Legitimately good pieces there.
It's just too bad that the good is bookended by fanart and furries, most of which... aren't so good.

Well that's charitable. "Aren't so good" sometimes feels like saying the Hindenburg was a "Less than stellar landing".
But yes. Though to be fair, the ticker at the top of the page once told me Deviantart was hosting over 15 million pictures. That was about 5 months ago, then an update removed the ticker. Or hid it. Oh well.
Even with Sturgeons Law there would still give a few hundred thousand being given a pass by default.

Should be noted though that Jim Lee, Adam Hughes, Stuart Immonen, Ryan Ottley and Ralph Horsley all have deviant-accounts. Just to name a few. So the quality's there.
