When I was playing World of Warcraft I found a gnome npc called "Linken" who wore a green hood.

He's in Un'Goro crater, by the way.

If you talk to him he says something like:
"What happened? I remember being on a raft."
Something to that effect anyway.
Yeah there's actually an entire LoZ quest line in Un'Goro...

There's a cavern in Bloodmoon called Bjorn where you can find Luke Skywalker's frozen corpse stuck to the ceiling.

Or something like that, yeah.

What is the most random and fun easter egg you have found in a game?

For me it is this...

While playing Fallout 3 I stubled across a computer in the museum of technology that had I note from a guy that was comprised of lyrics by industrial band Fear Factory, and the fictional scientist's name was B.Bell.. the name of the singer in said band.

Obviously this is only really exciting to people who are fans of the band but I thought it was really cool.
There was one also from F3, that I found during the quest "Stealing Independence". It was a note from a guy named P. Brantseg, who was responsible for maintaining the Protectrons that portrayed Jefferson and other historical figures. It referred to Patrick Brantseg who worked on MST3K as a prop master or, as they called him, a "puppet wrangler". Those puppets being the robots Tom Servo and Crow; as a hardcore MSTie that really made me smile!

In WoW, in the entrance to the Undercity, where the throne room is, if you turn up the volume very high you can hear a specific scene from WC3. That was my favorite easter egg in the game.

My favorite is still Final Fantasy 1 (NES version for sure, don't know if it's in the other ones) - in one of the towns (Elf, I think) if you look at the gravestones, one will have the name of a major character from Dragon Warrior 1.

As an immature teenager I would spend an unhealthy amount of time trying to find the low pixel boob images in Leisure Suit Larry. It was so worth it.

In FEAR near the end there was a secret room with a radio playing the music from Shogo (Monolith's first FPS). Total win, because once the cheery anime-style music stops you're left alone once again in a building full of corpses. As the heavy atmosphere sank back in I found myself wishing the music would start up again...

Fallout 1 & 2 had tonnes. Crashed Star Trek shuttles, a UFO with a dead Roswell grey, the Bridge of Death, the Cafe of Broken Dreams (with Dogmeat and a bunch of 'failed auditions' from Fallout 1), hell you can even find Tandy if you go far enough south.

In Dragonshard you can actually read the Very Important Documents you deliver to the Very Important Man, it's a guide on how to be an NPC, starting with never doing anything yourself and always asking complete strangers for help :)

Then there was Dust Puppy from User Friendly on the underside of The Bouncy Level in Quake III.

Well this is a list of favourites so I guess I'll stop there...

Earliest one I can remember is Duke Nukem 3d, there is a secret area that has the Doom soldier in a bloody pile. Duke says "Hmm, that's one doomed space marine".

Thief. In the starting training missions, you can follow your sword sparing partner into a gated hallway that leads to a basketball court, complete with a ball you can shoot baskets with.

GTA. You get a mission "Two-faced Tanner" you kill a driver called Tanner. Tanner is the name of the character in a game that was out at about the same time called Driver. He's described as a "...strangely animated undercover cop" and "he useless outside his car". They were dissing on the Driver games character model.

Dungeon Keeper. I loved the lines that were actually tied to the real time on your computer clock. If you played past 1:00am (which I did) it would say something like "Even evil need to rest. Go to Bed!"

Most people have posted my personal favourite Easter Eggs, apart from the ones from Saints Row 2, that game is hugely full of little inclusions.

At one point Birras and I were playing co-op and we found a barbershop quartet on the street, singing really well. They were an actual recording, playing on the street and eventually packed up and got mugged by some pimps, that we promptly executed.

I like that the devs just got in a barbershop quartet, recorded them, then stuck 'em in as a random encounter.

Plus, In MW2 Multiplayer we went searching for Easter Eggs and we've found a few. Twice we found coloured pictures of the IW Dev Team, we also found a golden train numbered "1337", plus in the "Estate" map it is discovered that in the CoD universe, Infinity Ward is a huge company.

They make a console called the "Gamestation 6" or something, which plays a few games. They also own DVDs and real books, like Frankenstein or 1984. Then in the basement they have movie posters with references to Left 4 Dead and Mass Effect, as one film is called "The Massey Effect" and another has in its tagline "left for dead".

In the Post-Credits Museum we noticed that Infinity Ward also sell retail, as in one of the backgrounds they have an IW "For Sale" sign. They also make cars and ammo, as every number plate and ammo crate has the letters IW on it somewhere.

EDIT : What the hell? This thread is from August, but I saw it on the front page? Sorry 'bout the necro, I thought it was recent.

well, despite being a necro thread (I didn't even realize it until I read the last post) I have one that I have been dying to mention.

In Perfect Dark, in the Carrington Institute. Enter the office of (Daniel?) Carrington, jump onto his desk, crouch, look into his face and move left and right a few times, carrington should say something along the lines of "You worry me, Joanna"

Don't ask how I figured that one out.

I found another fallout 3 easter egg in the police station where one computer read out a police call that made no sense, its hard to describe it but it felt like a fourth wall breaking sequence and it just sent a shiver down my spine. That was a creepy one but the weirdest one Ive found a blowup doll in a house you search in modern warfare 2, I know plenty of people have probably found it and talked about it but damn it was random.

In Saint's Row 2, I took the effort to dress my character up like The Blues Brothers (black suit, white shirt & black tie, black Fedora, black sunglasses, black dress shoes).

Coming back from my little shopping diversion, as I entered my crib, one of the strippers said "I wonder how Jake and Elwood are doing".

I think it's cool how the game recognised the clothing combination and look I was going for, and made a NPC comment appropriately.
No fucking way....thats so awesome

Oh man i wished i did that when i rented Saints 2
