I saw this http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21969004&postcount=32 over at the Steam forums, along with those pictures http://valvearg.com/w/images/8/85/32.jpg http://valvearg.com/w/images/4/4e/57.jpg http://valvearg.com/w/images/3/39/59.png that come from the ARG a few days before the game was released.

Also user Joseph375 a few posts below noticed this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ASgw5oa6SM
So mysterious...

I have to say it does make sense...what does it mean??? Is the ending not real?

Her slow clap processor was actually a slow plan making device!
Or, you know, when Chell passed out, she came up with it.

The distance thing is what's troubling me. We do see the moon like it's right there, but after we wake up we get a long elevator ride? Suspicious.

something about those clouds did seem suspicious. Maybe because they weren't moving while there was an obvious breeze passing through.

Umm, yes, you could have been passed out long enough for it to get sunny. Have YOU ever gotten sucked into space?

Gigatoast the problem is not the fact that it's sunny.

The suspicious part is when you're fighting wheatley, and the ceiling falls, you can see the moon. The surface is right there. But after you pass out, and you ride up the elevator from the same room, it takes MUCH longer to get outside.

If Aperture had that kind of 'holodeck' technology then Wheatley would have used it (even though he wouldn't have been able to use it WELL). Wheatley was able to find GLaDOS's creations that even SHE forgot about. Also, look at the ending scene again; the panels are actually pretty far up there. You're not THAT close to the surface.

But if I recall at the end of Portal 1, when you're being sucked up through the hole in the ceiling, you do kind of go a ways, don't you? Like even beyond where the ceiling had been.

One of the commentary nodes talks about how Valve had to try and put all the different sections of the game together, how they had to make sure that you got to each area in a way that was believable. It ends by asking the player if they can spot the one transition which was completely implausible. I'd say that was the long elevator ride at the ending. Just a guess.

That was a different room... wasn't it?
Don't think so. Pretty sure both games end in the same room.

It's the ARG pictures that really make you wonder though, right? To be fair, I'm ok with "we just made it that long so there could be a turret opera" as an excuse. Portal is a light hearted game so there's no reason to worry too much about things like that.

Yeah, putting the improbable elevator ride aside, it is quite possible that Glados has another plan for Chell. What makes me wonder though, is why Glados didn't bother just chucking Chell out into space with Wheatley... I mean she could EASILY have got rid of her that way if she wanted to. Makes you wonder if she really DID have another use for her...

It's not, it's the room where wheatley ambushes you with the defective turrets.

Or, if Caroline was really Chell's mother as some theories claim. The lyrics to the turret opera are certainly interesting in that regard. But then, I'm a big fan of the mystery if not the payoff. It's fun to speculate and wonder.

Pure pointless speculation.

Chell passed out in Wheatleys room and woke up many hours later in a different room.

I did not know that... thank you for correcting me!

Indeed, I'm not sure how I feel about the Caroline/Chell theory. That's what I like about Valve the most, they allow us to speculate and believe what we want to. Then again, although I found most of the little details, I never really put them together. I guess I don't pay much attention. When the moon appeared, I was like "Wow, the moon! I wonder if I can... no... OMG!" It didn't occur to me until someone on the forums said about the moon 's surface being a perfect conductor for portals.

It's always fun to play again and spot the stuff I missed though.

Bingo.

There is now way to know how long Chell was passed out and therefore no way to know how far she was moved. End of story.

How ever glados did not delete Caroline "her own voice" until she had rescued chell.
So until that point Glados did have self conscience so saving one who had saved her would sound some what logical. And deletion did not happen until the speech she gives stating that using chell as test subject due her proven stubborness is hard where there is easier way to do science.

I guess all this is possible, but if you've beaten the co-op you can probably guess how Portal 3 will be playing out...
