Not a fan by any means. Seems to me like a pussyfied, boring, overblown version of rugby.

But hey, to each his own.

Also, here in Portugal, we call it football. None of that "soccer" bullshit. The version played across the pond we refer to simply as "American" football

american football requires you to wear pads since you can tackle however you want while in rugby to my knowledge its no tackles above the waist.

also i think american football is ok but its to much of a start stop affair kind of like rugby in some instances. i prefer the more fluid forms of play like soccer (which is really football).
whats rather weird though is that i used to play a lot of cricket
No tackles above the neck. To stop people getting their heads knocked off. And no tackling if they're in the air.

But yes, coffee-break rucks (the official term :D) are a problem affecting the sport at the moment. That and kicking possession away.

I find some of these criticisms amusing. American football players are pansies for wearing pads? Go up to Ray Lewis and say that. I suppose hockey players are pansies too, they should just go back to not wearing helmets, because protection is for girls.

I have watched some memorable games American Football, I particularly remember the Joe Montana 49ers hurry up offense, but compared to game rugby (union or league) it doesn't flow as well. They also like a little wimpy compared to rugby players, all that protective gear and as to rugby not being physical

The second one is before they have even started playing

Actually a German made the technology to transmit images in the late 1800's and a Scott was the first person to transmit a moving image (as well as inventing video recording technology). Therefore also ours. Mostly :p
Yeah but we got the Plane. >:p

The first electric light was made in 1800 by Humphry Davy, an English scientist. He experimented with electricity and invented an electric battery. When he connected wires to his battery and a piece of carbon, the carbon glowed, producing light. This is called an electric arc.
Sorry. Apple Pie and Baseball are also ours.

I'm more of a fan of Canadian football. It's like American football but there is an extra player, a bigger field and only three downs making it a more fast paced game with bigger plays as opposed to smashing into each other three times then punting.

Kinda invented at the same time by Swan and Edison. And 22 or so people before them. Plus, never would have dont that work without British work on electricity (such as Humprey Davy, who is recorded as making a primitive incandesent bulb.

And flight still had a long way to go. 15ft for a minute or so is not the work of God.

Guys,

American Football is great. Much better than Rugby. I dont understand Rugby and what kind of strategy there is to it. American Football, playing and watching it, when the perfect pass comes together with the perfect run for a 60 yard touchdown. Now that makes me all fuzzy inside.

British!

And keep your baseball. We don't want it anyways. Neither does anyone else :D

EDIT: OK, Japan and Korea likes it. But it's English, with French influences early on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origins_of_baseball

But you did change some stuff. Not sure what exactly, but it's somehow different.

I like the CFL (Canadian Football League) better than the NFL, and 'true football' better than American football. But all in all, it is still pretty interesting to watch.

This thread went to a bad place fast.

On topic: I'm British, and my favourite sport is American Football. I will never say it is better than real Football (the one with the feet) and Rugby (you can say what you wish about AF vs Rugby, but I'm of the belief that true Rugby players are the hardest guys in the world.)

AF is different to both the others and I like it because it has a mix of strategy and skill, the other two are mostly just skill. That being said, the stop-start nature of it can get boring but I love it regardless.

On real football I like a kick-about but I never really cared for watching a full match on TV, dunno why, just didn't. I live in a Rugby town but you couldn't pay me to go to a game either, but big plays in football, rugby and AF are just as exciting as each other.

Used to play for my BCAFL team (UK Collegiate league) until I took a bad hit (like, nearly smashing my neck bad :s).

It's great fun, the stop-start nature compared to rugby means that tactics have more of an influence.

Difference being we're not being serious (at least, I'm not) about this whole thing. As it stands, I'm bored and not tired, so I'm dragging it out. Plus I love that picture.
