Ok my dear escapists, for the past several months I've been plagued by issues with my internet, BT have been useless as usual and suggested things I've already done. ( Reset the router, try another line port ).

The issues started as soon as we moved house, the router ( BT Home Hub 2 ) kept flashing orange ( On the broadband symbol ) and wouldn't connect. Soon after, we had IP issues. I solved that by assigning static IP addresses to every item in the house. That solved them for a few days. Then we were hit by "DNS Errors" which persist and sometimes it just straight up decides not to send a signal, dropping the internet all over the house. This requires a hard reset of the router.

It's been happening for over 5 months now and the frequency of which it happens is irritating at best and damn right infuriating at worst. It can be every 5 minutes some days, every few hours on others and sometimes it'll be ok for a few days before it decides we've had too much fun.

So, is there anything anyone here can recommend?

Maybe it's the router? I don't actually know with this.

You could always try another provider as well, or see if you're in the right area for fibre optics?

Alas, we're not in the area that can get fibre optic...I'm thinking it's just a problem with the router...I'll have a little chat with BT and see if they'll be useful and send out another one...see if that resolves the issues.

There are a few things that can cause it - very likely to be a hardware fault along the way.

If you ring up BT, they can do a line test. If that comes up as problematic, then chances are there's something for them to fix.

Ensure every phone that's plugged into a wall has a microfilter. If you have spare microfilters, try replacing the ones you've got. If you haven't tried a new router, it may be worth testing, but in my experience routers being faulty in this way is rare.
If you have any phones that you can do without, unplug them and see if the issue goes away.

Once had BT mess up a line upgrade near me, and the wires were broke, which made the line very noisy. Could hear it on the phone as well tho. When they installed the line in my house, they didn't fit a master socket (naughty engi), which caused line problems. If either of these happen to you, it's up to BT to eat the cost. Don't get an engineer out unless you know it isn't your equipment (they charge a lot for the privilege - as one of the companies I worked for found out when a microfilter went bad)

If replacing either of those isn't working - get BT to do a line test. If it's the socket or any of the wires to the exchange that are faulty, then it'll come up as a fault, and BT will fix it.

Thanks, I'll give this a test and see what happens. We have 3 phones about the house, so I'll try without a few and if it doesn't work, I'll ask BT to do a line test and make things work...hopefully...

Yeah, worth getting the line test done, if you can get through to BT in a reasonable time frame lol.
