Is there such a thing? I mean I don't know anyone around me who plays DnD who isn't wierd (not nerdy wierd, like really creepy wierd.) and I know theres DnD online but is there just normal DnD online..?

Possibly which doesn't cost money.

I always wanted to try it.

Theres a couple of programs like ScreenMonkey that make it a bit easier. It includes a visual map, a dice roller and a chat client. I've never got it to work because of my lack on networking skillz, but I'm sure if you knew what you were doing you could work your way around it. It looks pretty damn good aswell.

I've played D&D a couple of times with a guy on skype. Apart from the fact he was a bad player (there isn't any reason to play a Dragonborn Goliath fighter.. ever.) it was a little akward because we all had to wait for him, move the camera around and had to keep idle chatter to a minimum.

Its posible, but a little awkward.

Then theres the play by post which I've found a little slow.

I'd have a go at this too. It's hell trying to get a group together around here and I've been feeling the call of the dice now for the past six months.

A few 'Scapists tried it not too long ago, but it didn't really get rolling.
Still, talk to RagnarokTres if you want some information on how to go about doing it; he's the person I know.

It's hard to actually find a game to play over the internet, often its a group a friends doing it because getting together at one place can often be pretty hard, especially for people with kids. There's plenty of programs you can use, all of which take a bit of practice to actually DM with, but with the right group (just like in RL) it is awesome. Fantasy Grounds 2 is very nice if your DM has the spare time and sheer willpower to put everything into it, once the groundwork is done its very smoothly and has a great feel.

But if you're having trouble finding a group, I'd suggest a Play by Post site, there's alot of them out there. Though as zen5887 said, they're a very slow way to play, with people usually posting once a day (some games are faster 2-3 day, others are 2-3 posts per week). However this usually attracts a different type of crowd. The slowness of the games, and being able to write things out makes it much easier to roleplay properly. I used to post on DnDOG a fair bit, really good site with some excellent staff and on the whole great community.

we have a group for it but i think only one session ended up getting off the ground, we're gonna start running different games with different people as DMs, and use ventrilo and map tools to play

*edited to fix quote that didn't work*

A large part of that sentence is comprised of nonsense - next you'll tell me somebody is playing an Eladrin Gnome, or a Human Githzerai, or maybe a Halfling Drow!

Seriously, how the hell did you have a player claiming to be a Dragonborn and a Goliath at the same bloody time? The rules don't work like that.

In 3.5 a Dragonborn is sort of a "Prestige Race." You pledge allegiance to Bahamut and you go though a ritual, then go into an egg and come out a Dragonborn.

Nope, sorry. But you can try and get someone to run you a solo game where its just you and the DM...pretty hard though.

...What. That's just... wow, that may be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. I'm kind of glad I didn't know that was how those... 'worked' in 3.5, it kind of makes it impossible to take Dragonborn seriously really.

So I suppose the pertinent question now is, what does the whole "go into an egg" deal do to your stats? Because honestly, as much as I think that's ridiculous, I would probably totally still play one if it worked into my overall min/max strategy (still a stupid concept though).

I've never taken Dragonborns seriously anyway.

"Hey... Wouldn't it be awesome if you could like... Play as a dragon guy?"
"Yeah, that would be fuckin' awesome!"
"Yeah!!!"

I was happy when no one had heard of them.
