Internet Explorer users have a lower than average IQ, according to research by Consulting firm AptiQuant.

The study gave web surfers an IQ test, then plotted their scores against the browser they used.

IE surfers were found to have an average IQ lower than people using Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Users of Camino and Opera rated highest.

What do we think? I've always assumed IE users were just less familiar with computers and therefore tended to stick to the default browser, but the fact that some of them have suggested they'll take legal action over the results leads me to think they really might just be stupid.

I saw this same thread yesterday.

And I think they may not have a lower IQ, maybe just laziness.

We just had this thread for god's sake. It already gave tons of anger about browsers and the interpretation of IQ as intelligence.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that the people who genuinely believe that your choice of web browser influences your intelligence possess a less well developed grasp of common sense.

I may not have a study behind me when I say this but of all the factors out there that are gonna factor into your intelligence I doubt that whether you use IE or Firefox has significant impact (after all, correlation is not causation).

Seems like a small sample number considering the widespread usage of the internet, but I still find it highly amusing. Even more so with the threat of a lawsuit because AptiQuant posted the statistics that they gathered, unless they altered the numbers there isn't a damn thing that they can do short of not posting anything for fear of offending someone, and this is the internet people, grow a thicker skin.

This thread was done Yesterday, IQ tests mean very little, and there's nothing wrong with a personal preference as insignificant as that.

Insulting IE users seems like a really pathetic way to attempt for someone insecure with themselves to stroke their own ego. If users of other browsers were comfortable with themselves, this wouldn't be news.

It sounds to me like this is all just proof of the larger issue: people in general are very petty and insecure.

So many of these threads before. I think with every new topic there should be a box you have to tick that says you have at least tried to search to see if it's already been done.

As I said in the last one, it's a pretty weak sauce excuse for a study until there's one that looks at the IQ of people who search for free IQ tests.
