Hi all.

That "Internet Laws" thread that was locked earlier this week was pretty interesting, but went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off-topic. So, let's try this again.

Allow me to start:

Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is a load of bullshit.

Murphy's Law: If something can go wrong, it will go wrong.

I already posted this, but the more popular a thread is, the more likely it is to get locked for no apparent reason.

Internet Rule No 1: People will argue about nothing, for the benefit of nobody, for no other reason than because they can.

One very important rule is to never argue with an idiot, they'll just drag you down to their own level and beat you with experience.

Firstly, this thread is so people can post internet "rules" that should be laws. See the above posts for an idea of what I mean.

Technically that isn't true, but I will agree for the sake of thread survival.

Anyway:

Gordon's Law: Any reference to the crowbar in a zombie thread will immidately be followed by 300 "OMG LIEK CROWBAR FTW!!!!11one" posts.

The "I have no idea how to use the forum search bar" Law: Every thread in existence can and WILL be copied at least once a week. (In the case of zombie threads, once an hour.)

This is due to the fact that controversial threads attract loads of attention, and therefore loads of screaming jerks. And thus they get locked.

The first reference to Sturgeon's Revelation appears in the March 1958 issue of Venture Science Fiction, where science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon wrote: "I repeat Sturgeon's Revelation, which was wrung out of me after twenty years of wearying defense of science fiction against attacks of people who used the worst examples of the field for ammunition, and whose conclusion was that ninety percent of SF is crud."

Also, these can be used anywhere, they're certainly not "internet laws".

Clarke's Third Law: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Finagle's Law: "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong"
Godwin's Law: should be obvious [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hitlercard1.jpg]
Poe's Law: "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article."
Murphy's Law: "If there are two or more ways to do something, and one of those ways can result in a catastrophe, then someone will do it"
