Not trying to persuade you to think differently about it or anything, your opinion is certainly yours, and I'll respect it accordingly - but, if I may ask, what exactly spurred your dislike of 4chan?

Hold on, all you naysayers. 4Chan was, is, and always shall be the fount from which all Internet comes forth. Without visiting 4Chan and seeing the worst (and arguably, the best) Internets has to offer, you'll never understand the Internet culture.

Allow me to reiterate. I hold a differing opinion from you, therefore I am a troll? Your logic is folly. I've been a contributing member of this forum for nearing on two years, have written several thought-provoking articles (most of which express an opinion, which you seem to hold extreme disdain for), all of which have generated several pages of discussion.

If I am a troll, then I sincerely wish that this forum had more trolls.

If your views of 4chan is that of a good place, then yes, You are a troll.

If that's your idea of what a troll is, then you're an idiot. A troll is someone who attempts to irritate, infuriate, or annoy other people. If my saying that 4Chan isn't the hell that people seem to think it is (It admittedly has its dark side: I never said he should visit /b/) makes me a troll... then I don't even know what to do with that.

No, it has nothing to do with "I hold a diffrent opinion from you", 4chan is The worst place on the net, it's full of ***h*les, idiots who ruins other peoples' lives and a bunch of kids who think they're hilarious because their real life is so terrible dull that they have to act like complete retards in order to feel good about themselves.

Actually, it has everything to do with that, since you JUST expressed an opinion, since you have nothing but personal 'data' to back up that statement, and being an ASSHOLE is a measure of opinion in itself. I think that Yahtzee is as pretentious jackass, and some would disagree with me. How is that different from you saying that 4Chan is full of assholes?

Not everyone on 4Chan is a member of Anon, and not every 4Chan member is an asshole. I'm regularly on 4Chan. I know several people who are on 4Chan and are some of the most polite people I know.

4Chan has its bad spots, but is by no means rotten to the core. The Escapist has its terrible sectors as well. At least /a/ has some intelligent discussions every once in awhile, something the Escapist has lacked severely in lately.

Well, yes, I wholeheartedly agree with that. Quite a few people do. When you concoct "the true face of the internet," that's to be expected.

That said, I do feel it is a very important part of the internet. I certainly can't name another website out there that has spurred more memes, controversy, and rallied more people in real life than 4chan has. Even if it's unpleasant, it's presence is undeniable.

This goes more into the case of anonymity, which again, is a pretty important standpoint to look at, especially if we're aiming down the road of identities on the internet. Unfortunately, it's one that I won't dare to touch - as it would require far more evidence than I have at my disposal to compile an even semi-coherent input.

I will say this, however: I can't think of many websites that allow you to post without registration, and as such, without having any real identity of your own (save for your IP address, and even then, only moderators can see that.) And, naturally, this is going to be taken to the limit, especially when coupled with the relatively loose guidelines of what is appropriate and inappropriate to post.[footnote]CP is excluded, as that will still get you b&.[/footnote]

I will close with this: it's not always a pleasant part of the internet, but I am in agreement with my man Emu here in saying that it is a very big part of the internet, and one that should at least be acknowledged.
