No, Bethesda made Fallout 3, not Interplay. I dunno how you could get that wrong and say that Interplay made the only bad Fallout game.
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

That's all I have to say to you.
BoS isn't the only bad game, and even so, it's not the worst Fallout. That game was still made by Bethesda.
Are you angry with Bethesda because they made an actually bad game, or because they made a Fallout game that wasn't the "real" Fallout?

Because, in all seriousness, it is entirely Interplay's fault that Bethesda even got the rights to Fallout in the first place. If Interplay hadn't royally fucked up Black Isle, they'd still be making Fallout.

Hey interplay. I've got a solution for ya. Wasteland MMO. Considering it's the father of Fallout, there is going to be fuck all difference and the fans will know what you mean. Why do that? Because you are going to lose this battle, and you haven't got a recent title to your name to support you. Hell, you should have died when you ran Fallout into the ground in the first place.

Part of the deal was the conditional right to do the Fallout MMO. So far as I can gather, Interplay hasn't gotten the job done according to the contract terms, so Bethesda's within its rights to stop development for the good of the brand.

I hope Bethesda crushes Interplay on this one, because the latter is not financially or resource-wise in any position at all to do any good for that franchise.

Dear Bethesda. I had respect for you. Then you made oblivioon. I thought it was ok, but nowhere near as good as Morrowind. Then you made Fallout 3. I thought it was ok, but nowhere near as good as Fallout 1-2. Please let Interplay do this project in peace. Don't act like an ass. You make pretty good RPG's. So did Interplay. Let them try with the Fallout MMO. I am mildly excited about it. I really, really want it made.
Key word: did

Black Isle don't exist anymore (A number of them formed Obsidian), and Interplay are a shell of what they were. If you want Fallout games, you'll back Bethesda because they have the funds, the skill and the ability to make the games happen. Interplay have two French twits who headed the company that made Superman 64.

Now, really, who would you want in charge? The people who made Superman 64 or the people who made Morrowind?
Coldalarm is right. The major writers of fallout 2 made New Vegas. Fallout: New Vegas was probably the closest thing to Van Buren that you are going to get. No one expects Atari, or Activision to behave like they did in the 90's and 80's, so why is Interplay (whose most recent projects include Earthworm Jim and MDK) hailed like Christ on the donkey

Why is everyone jumping up to defend Interplay? They're an incompetent, largely dead publisher. I'd imagine the motivation behind Bethesda's action against them is to prevent them from doing any further damage to the Fallout franchise. They've NOT been kind to it.

Anyone remember Interplay laying off Black Isle, who made the classic Fallouts we know and love while giving the greenlight to THIS, when forced to downsize:

Do you really WANT Interplay to make a Fallout MMO? Sure, Bethesda's "case" is at this point whitewash for a process-as-punishment legal money-burning dick move, but in a way, I can't help feel it's for the greater good.

I think Tycho's got a decent grasp on their nature as a company.

This comic was from 2004 FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!

Bethesda isn't the one that failed to honor the agreement.

Myself and quite a few others have already pointed this out - Interplay did not hold up their end of the bargain. Which makes me wonder what grounds people seem to think Interplay actually is standing on.

I agree. The past two Fallout games have been awesome, why would you want them to take a step backwards?

Actually, none of the companies acted right on this.

I don't know if Bethesda is in the right or wrong, but they should be allowed to protect their IP. My point is just that Interplay already dropped the ball - that's what started this fiasco.

This, pretty much. I don't hate Interplay or anything, I just don't see how they could provide the financial support this title commands.

Also, does it strike anyone else as completely odd that "Fallout 6" was mentioned in this article? Had someone said "Fallout 3" to me 8 years ago, I would've roundly laughed at them, let alone "Fallout 6"...

To hell with Interplay. After the mediocre showings of Tactics and BoS, they thought the series dead, and couldn't sell it fast enough. Now Bethesda surprisingly brings it back to life, and Interplay wants back in on the picture.

Sorry, that's now how it works. You sold the license. It's Bethesda's now, move the fuck on, and stop acting like a 5-year-old.
That's the way I see it. But what I would really like to know is, what does the contract say?

So wait? Alot of you are cheering for the company that has no money. That SOLD the license lock stock and barrel outright to pay its astronomical debts, and that hasn't actually produced a game in well over a decade, over the company that paid them a substantial amount of money to outright purchase the IP, in good faith, and has developed the IP into one of the most profitable and popular gaming franchises ever? WOW! Gamers really are idiots!

For those that haven't figured it out yet. This is not your fathers Interplay. They are a pack of scam artists on about the same level as patent trolling lawyers. They have continued to act like they still own properties that they outright sold for profit, for years. They have used this assumption of ownership to drum up venture capital under questionable circumstances and to sell products that imply things that they just are not. (Fallout Trilogy?!?!?)

I cannot understand this rabid and pointless support for Interplay in this? They have no resources to speak of. They really aren't the "developers" (Black Isle was. Interplay canned all of them). They do not have the funding to make the game that we want, and never will. Bethesda does. Bethesda has been taking fully understandable steps to protect the license that they bought outright from a failed studio years ago. They have been making games that we like for years and have been highly successful doing so. They have the capability to pretty much fully self finance a AAA MMO. In other words they can make the game we want.

What Interplay is doing is exactly the same thing as what 3d Realms did with Duke Nukem forever for years and years and years. How would we all feel if after that game finally releases from Gearbox and 2K Games 3d Realms were to suddenly declare that they still owned the rights and were making a Duke Nukem MMO? That is exactly what Interplay is doing here. They dumped the franchise at fire sale prices years ago, kept a limited license for an MMO that they failed to act on, and are now attempting to jump on somebody else's money train. In most worlds this is bordering on fraud. And yet so many gamers are bending over backwards to declare for them?

I agree. It would be cool if Beth was making FPP Fallouts, and Interplay could do oldschool CRPG ones. Everyone would be happy.

Except probably for STOCKHOLDERS !

why do people want a Fallout MMO; a post-Apocalyptic MMO it's a oxymoron and to be honest Bethesda ten years ago was struggling to surive but now Zeni-Max the people behind Bethesda are one of the largest publishers in gaming, if that doesn't tell you how good Bethesda's games are then you support the makers of superman 64 in destroying fallout

Just give the license to Obsidian. They seem to know how to make a better Fallout game then both Bethesda and Interplay.

The one who deserves the license most of all is obviously this guy.

I think, with their world view and experience, that they've proven very capable of making great fallout games. Also they're sexy as all hell.

And then after that an old Scottish man is going to claim McDonalds. Yeah good luck with that ass holes.
I'm sure your game would be far superior, I mean look at Fallout Extreme. They where in debt 59 million$ when Bethesda bought the series now they are down to only 3 million$ in debt. Interplay should be thanking their lucky stars for Bethesda, not biting the hand that feeds them. Interplay should be trying to work WITH Bethesda.

While Interplay probably did not fulfill the requirements, it was partly because Bethesda acted in bad faith.
