Halo's theme is excellent, releasing it as Guitar Hero 3 DLC was a great idea.

Megaman 2's intro music is brilliant, no-one can doubt that.

Pretty much every Advance Wars game has excellent music as well.

Halo does have good music despite what anyone sez.
Metroid Prime has great music.
I like most midi music from really old games..
If you've ever heard the Duke Nukem Forvever Theme Song, you'll know first hand how awesome it is.

I think it would be awesome to hear the Doom music done with actual instruments. Not that I don't like them as they are, just saying it would be cool.

Is the DNF theme the same as the one from Duke3D?

There are two songs in FFX that stand out.
The intro music with the piano is a really nice chilled piece...
THEN, when the first FMV plays when sin is destroying zanarkand there is some brutal heavy metal that fits perfectly.

The music from the portal escape levels was rather nice.
Also the duke nukem theme song, preferable the project manhattan one, that one was the best

The Halo 3 theme, the opening to Final Fantasy VII and also the opening theme to the Zone of Enders franchise (Heart of Air's "Kiss me Sunshine")

The opening of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2) stands out to me.

It has a very cinematic opening, reminiscent of a movie trailer, with music by Harry Gregson-Williams. As a whole Metal Gear Solid 2 didn't strike me right, I found it's story annoying and the environments very bland with occasional moments of frustration. But the opening was spectacular, sadly kind of misleading about the game.

Runner up would be Total Annihilation (PC). Another great orchestral score, Total Annihilation was full of them, but I really the intro with the music.

Another one worth mention would be the Final Fantasy 8 opening. Didn't much like the game, but I gotta admit that's one helluva intro.

As for overall game music, Planescape: Torment takes the cake there. Beautiful stuff, very beautiful stuff.

Starcraft has quite good music overall, but the intro music in Warcraft 2 is just awesome. Sad that the music in Warcraft 3 and WoW isn't nearly as chatchy but it's still good.

MechWarrior 2. The music playing is the background of the intro mixes perfect with radio chatter, there was jsut something about it that was just so.... 'cool'.

Oh yeah and Unreal Tournament... That game had awesome intro music, and the series in general has very appropriate music.

also the opening of Final Fantasy Adventure/Mystic Sword/Seiken Detsomething (depending on geographic location) is so emotional. Too bad the Sword of Mana remake messed it up

The Godfather: The Game has a wicked theme, for some reason.

BF 1942... can't hear that without picturing Zeros skimming the waves towards an allied battleship.

Morrowind... oh, I like the Evil Genius theme too, with the synchronised scuba divers.
