Something that has been bothering me for a while. Why did they decide to invert the Y-axis in FPS games? Is it based on airplanes? Is it easyer for some reason? Does anyone know the reason behind this ??

Yes, it's because of pilot games. Early 3D games were almost all pilot games, where the Y axis was reversed, therefore a lot of the old-school gaming crowd like the inverse y axis because they grew up with it. To this day I have to invert the y axis on all games that I play, or I literally can't play them.

Thread belongs in gaming discussion.

Belongs in Gaming Discussion, friend.

OT: I hate inverted controls, however I prefer them during swimming/aeroplane flying sections.

I disable inverting, without fail, because pointing to aim with the analog stick is sooooo much easier.

Yeah its basically because games used to be joystick controlled and joysticks are traditionally inverted, so they just carried the inversion over to newer control systems and games for a while, some people stuck with it.

Started playing FPS with normal axis and only changed to inverted after accidently choosing inverted when the game had that calibration test, just ended up getting used to it. Been playing with it ever since. Also use it for flying games and such.

It doesn't really make a difference to me. Unless Im playing an FPS, I usually just keep it at default setting.

I xan't stand inverted-Y. My sister uses it a lot, she always toggles it on, but I just can't.

I believe it's because of the age. Inverted Y-axis is for old people (T-shirt material right there).

I don't remember what got me on inverted but I always play inverted. I didn't even realize it until Halo. I can see the appeal though unlike inverted x-axis.

Invert my Y axis only for flying games, inverting it for fps just doesnt make sense. Why should i have to push down to aim up?

I don't know if I do or don't, I usually just play with whatever default is on it's not that hard to figure out.
