That is exactly the big difference between a fan funded game and receiving money from a publisher. A publisher will enforce their will onto a game by withholding money to get what they want. With this game I listen to what people have to say but I get to make a judgment call for what is the best approach. There are always extreme opinions on things but the gamers as a whole are quite sane.
Is it just a matter of separating the wheat from the chaff when it comes to fan ideas, or do you guys have a pretty strong internal vision of where you want this thing to go?

Is that really you, Brian?

OT: Nice of them to release a screen to show us that work actually IS in progress. So far it looks quite relevant to my interests, I look forward to seeing more of this soon.

Don't worry about my strong sense of internal vision. ;) There are attributes of the game development that are more flexible than others. Tweaking a palette will not change my overall direction as an example. There are so many variables in a game and I want to make sure our efforts are on the things that matter most.

Since you're here while I remember this are you planning on letting people adjust the color palette themselves? I remember you mentioning letting people do it on twitter but it didn't really sound like a confirmation more than an idea.

We are trying to make as many options user definable as possible and adjusting the palette is trivial so yes. The default palette will be like the "directors cut". I just wanted to show people that we are hard at work making tangle progress.

Oh we understand why you posted this I was just asking considering you mentioned it. Thanks for the screenshot. Even in alpha it looks amazing.

I now this is a very early screenshot, but it looks too smooth and undetailed. Are there bump maps for the textures?

Brian Fargo on The Escapist?

*coughs*

As far as the screenshot goes, that scorpion is quite a bit larger than I'd expect from a huge super-scorpion. The view looks nice, I love that the colors aren't as desaturated as what we're used to, and the graphics just look overall nice and smooth.

Looking forward to seeing more, whenever that'll happen.

As a fan of the original Wasteland, I automatically thought 'Scorpitron' when I saw that screenshot. I never did manage to kill that thing...

If I remember correctly the correct 'tactic' was to load up on 50 RPGs and fire them as fast as possible, that and a whole lot of dieing and reloading. ;-) Getting in range was the tricky part.

The Scorpitron is such an iconic enemy that it probably ends up being a mascot for the Wasteland series. A very cool concept.
