Is a PS3 worth it?

So it was recently announced that the 160GB PS3 is now going to be $250 and an Infamous 2 Bundle (320GB) for $300 (Sauce:http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/ps3-price-cut-to-250/).

I've been thinking about getting a PS3 for a long time now, but I can't really seem to justify it. There are only about 6 games on it that are exclusives that I would want (LBP/LBP2, Infamous/Infamous 2, 3D Dot Hero, Demon's Souls).

So I'm at a crossroads here wondering if I should get a PS3 or abandon the idea all together and just stick with my PS2, 360 and Wii. So when I'm in crisis what do I do. Why turn to the people of the internets of course! Because getting advice from strangers on the internet is what life is all about. So Escapist, should I get a PS3, or should I just stick with what I got.

I would save for a gaming PC, GW 2 is launching this fall, and it looks better than Jesus second coming!

And also that Star Wars MMO.

I'm sure after a while you'd find other exclusives you're interested in. Also if you have an HDTV and no blueray player yet, there's that bonus as well. Honestly, I'd suggest looking into gamefaqs or a similar site under the PS3 section and look up games from your favorite genre. Check the reviews and if your still interested look for trailers for that game. If you expand your "do want" list a bit more, I'm sure it'll be worth the investment for you.

The PS3 is a great system, if lacking now compared to its earlier generations. But personally I'd rather invest in a better PC than a console this late in the game. With a good PC and 360 you're covered for the vast majority of releases. Many titles are relative enough that you can usually find something to scratch any particular itch.

Oddly enough, I forgot it's also a blu-ray player. I'm a Netflix junkie and don't really care about high picture quality.

Frankly the PS3 is all i've needed. Every game worth having is either available on all platforms or a PS3 exclusive. And the online play is free, and even better, less people play online!

I say wait is it really worth about $400 for six games, I'm sure about you but I don't have that kind of money.

Definitely, it has the best exclusive of all three consoles and now it's only 250$. Not to mention the bluray player which even upscales DVDS.

Indeed, what -Dragmire- said. I'm not completely up on exactly what an X-Box 360 can do, but i use my PS3 as more of a media centre than a dedicated gaming device. Currently mine has about 1.2Tb of HDDs attached to and they're filled with primarily videos for easy watching. I hate to say it, but the list of PS3 exclusives isn't that long, although there are some hidden gems on the PSStore such as Flower and Pain.
To be honest though, if you've already got a 360 and a Wii i'd think long and hard about it, i mean, do you really need one?

Uhumm, like Shogun 2, Frozen Synapse, The Witcher, Amnesia, Terraria, Warhammer 40k Redemption, you know, just from the last 6 months.

From there Amnesia is really impressive, and indie too. Though i would guess most people would argue the Witcher to be the best of those.

Some people are not, and will never be PC gamers. Some of us enjoy plug-and-play with no complications. Some of us enjoy the feel of a controller in our hands and if you actually read what the OP had said before sputtering "my god is holier than yours" garbage, he's clearly a console gamer.

I highly don't think so its really hard to develop for and has some overrated tech specs that don't really perform. The only reason to get a ps3 is for exclusive and blueray, if you don't want either of those avoid it.

Uncharted 3 will be game of the year - anyone who can't recognize that by now is fooling themselves. So basically, do you think $250 is worth missing out on that?
I know Uncharted is amazing and all that, but despite owning a PS3 for a loong time, i've never had any interest in trying it. I've tried the available demos and it's just not something for me, which i can only assume means it isn't for everyone.
I got my PS3 on the promise of Gran Turismo 5. Anything beyond that is a bonus

Well if you make a whole lot of money then why not, but if you don't there's no need to buy a whole new system just for 6 games.

if you have the money spare, go for it you clearly love games and gaming, there are plenty of good gaming experiences to be had on all platforms

but if money is an issue wait for a ps4, there's probably a couple of years of major development left for the ps3 in my opinion

if it's worth it to you then do it.

I've had a ps3 for a few years, along with an xbox 360. I feel like I enjoy the playstation more, as I like the exclusives much more than the ones for the 360 (Aside from Halo). Uncharted 1 is a great game, certainly not for everyone, but the second is much better. The infamous series is great, and the first installment was possibly one of my favorite games. I prefer the playstation to the xbox, but both have their pros and cons. If you don't have a blu-ray player, and are interested in the good exclusives, then I would go for it.

Stay away. The only reason to get the PS3 is for the exclusives and you clearly don't seem that excited for them.
