If I were you, WHICH I AM DUM DUM DUM, I'd just wait till around October when the new PS3 that can play PS2 titles comes out. Also if you want to save a few bucks on HDD space you can just buy a 500 GB hard drive from amazon for like 60 bucks and put it in, it's stupidly easy, never could figure out how to upgrade my friends 360 though.

Depends on whether you like to play on line, or whether you like quality single player experiences (and JRPGS).

If you like to game online, get a 360. There's nothing for you on PS3.
For everything else, DEFINITELY get a PS3. It's fantastic.

I personally own every console and a high end PC, and though the PC is used a lot it's mainly for the net. The PS3 is the most useful console I've ever had, and gets used every day, either for watching stuff off my 2TB external hdd, gaming, MUBO, Vidzone, or watching blu rays/dvds. It has amazing exclusives, and is very easy to navigate and use compared to the xbox. In fact, thanks to this price drop I'm even thinking of picking up a second PS3 for my gf. I'm sick of her hogging mine hah.

The 360... well, that's sitting gathering dust. Covered with a cloth cause the genius's at Microsoft thought it a great idea to have gaping huge cooling vents on the sides for absolutely everything to gather inside. Well done, MS. I've collected every exclusive, but only bothered to complete a few of them. Multiple discs is a REAL pain in the ass. So far Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia and the Gears of War series have proven to be worth playing. Halo 3 and it's subsequents hacks were among the worst FPS single player experiences I've ever had. Especially Halo 3. How the hell did that thing get so lauded? It was horrendous. I think I had more fun playing Duke Nukem. At least that had so humour.

One thing that I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned - PS3 games tend to drop in price a bit quicker than the 360. For example, I've seen the same game for £10 cheaper, just because its on the PS3. Also, controllers and peripherals are cheaper, because they don't have that controller tech cost (M$ charge people to use their controller tech).

If it's a case of loosing the 360, then I say go for it. I have all the consoles, and the PS3 easily gets the most attention. It's not really because of exclusives or anything like that, it just seems to be a good all round console, and I kinda wish I had bought more games for that, rather than the 360. LBP is a great game, I really like the community levels, like the shark attack and bomb survival stuff - a lot of fun. There are some great shooters too, like Killzone 2 and 3, and MAG is well worth checking out too, if you fancy some bigger online matches. XBL can be a pain in the arse, I honestly find that there are less griefers and idiots on the PS3 than the 360.

As for people saying a PC makes more sense... well it depends on your perspective. If your a gamer, and you don't have a console, then stop calling yourself a gamer!. Being a PC gamer doesn't count, because everybody I know can call themselves a PC gamer. People should choose to play on PC rather than a console because the experience is better on the PC. That might often be the case, but it's not set in stone - there are a lot of games out there that aren't designed for PC, aren't released for PC, and simply aren't as good on PC. It's good to sit on a couch and play games on a large screen, it's not a sign of weakness FFS!. Gamers should be prepared to play on whatever platform is available, or convenient, whether that's a top range gaming PC, a PS3, or a freakin Vectrex! Consoles level the playing field and leave it up to the players skill - most of the time at least.

Personally I would save my money if you have another console already, PS3 isn't worth it for the exclusives alone (unless you don't already have gaming PC/Xbox and maybe Wii.)

Would just like to emphatically warn against Hyper dimensions Neptunia, really a terrible game, feel free to borrow my copy to test this out. That game would have barely even passed inspection on last gen tecnology.

OT. Definately go for the PS3 if you have te cash, especially considering your loss of access toa 360 when you head out on your own. Much love for the big black block, and you can always pump up the hard disk space, the exclusives are good, the online is plug and play. Killzone and resistance series may add some interest to your expanding list of exclusives to consider.

So it was recently announced that the 160GB PS3 is now going to be $250 and an Infamous 2 Bundle (320GB) for $300 (Sauce:http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/ps3-price-cut-to-250/).

I've been thinking about getting a PS3 for a long time now, but I can't really seem to justify it. There are only about 6 games on it that are exclusives that I would want (LBP/LBP2, Infamous/Infamous 2, 3D Dot Hero, Demon's Souls).

So I'm at a crossroads here wondering if I should get a PS3 or abandon the idea all together and just stick with my PS2, 360 and Wii. So when I'm in crisis what do I do. Why turn to the people of the internets of course! Because getting advice from strangers on the internet is what life is all about. So Escapist, should I get a PS3, or should I just stick with what I got.
As a PS3 owner, don't get one.

I wasn't big on PS3 from the beginning and yet I purchased it mostly for blu ray. For whatever reason, I haven't bought a single blu ray since I decided to buy it. Rented a few, sure, but Blu Ray no longer seems like a worthwhile investment to me.

As for the games, some of them are pretty good but nothing in my opinion you can't live without. The exclusives on the whole are kind of lacking for my tastes. The only one I would recommend to you that isn't on your list is Uncharted 2 simply because the artists did an amazing job on the level design. Not so much how the levels are functionally, but how the levels looks aesthetically.

LBP and LBP2 is not as much fun solo unless you really want to design levels. If you have a few friends who own the game or live close by, the real fun is playing through story mode or custom levels with them.

The infamous series is decent but I found that both games quickly got repetitive. I'd say more worthy of a rental than a purchase.

3D Dot Hero I never played, but Demon's Souls is worth checking out. My only major complaint with that game is that if you get to a certain soul level, the game loses all its challenge. Other than that, it's a great experience if you desire a game that offers little mercy and forgiveness. But if you don't like games that are a little slower paced, the experience might turn you off.

All in all, if you've held off this long, you can hold off more. The only thing saving PS3 for me are its non-exclusives and I could purchase them for my 360 if I wanted to.

All depends on the games you want. The ones you listed are very good first party titles, and others are coming (Resistance 3, Twisted Metal, Uncharted 3, ect) so I would suggest waiting 'till the holiday season for the deals and such.

That's how I bought mine two years ago. Got it the day after christmas. Greatest choice I ever made.

I'd definitely recommend it. I was a late adopter as well, but now I love it much more than my 360. I simply like the exclusives more.

I'm thinking about it. The main games I'm interested in are the various jRPGs like Hyperdimension Neptunia, and White Knight Chronicles. That, and the PSN for PS1 games (although I have a PSP, just need a bigger card.) and as a Blu-Ray Player. I have a PSN account, is the Welcome Back program still going?

Just as a note, I have a Wii, 360, and a gaming PC.
As far as I've understood it, and I haven't, the free 30 days of plus has expired, but the free games are still available, but won't be much longer.
The free games are what I wanted, thanks! I might just get the solo $250 console, and get Infamous 2 later on if it's cheap enough. I figure if I wind up not liking Infamous (which I'd get from the WB program) then I wouldn't bother with 2. I really liked Prototype on my PC, though, so I don't know why I wouldn't like Infamous. Still.

All the best titles are still multiplatform.
If you already have a 360, it probably isn?t worth it unless you need a BR player or are getting really tired of paying for online. Even then, it looks like any new functions added to the ps3 (it?s mostly just been losing functions over the past couple of years) are going to require the Plus subscription. And that?s the biggest problem with the ps3: it gets really horrible support. It?s a good piece of hardware that could do a lot of things but Sony seems intent on sandbagging it for some reason.
I got a ps3 a few years ago and I got to tell you, I sometimes wish I went with the 360 instead. I feel like I got a really nice sports car that wont come out of first gear. It?s still good for when friends come over but I?ve been playing mostly on the PC lately.

It's a neat console for some of it's exclusives like Uncharted, Demon's Souls, LBP, Infamous. Also you can use it as a Blu-ray player and play Blu-ray dvd's which is another use for mine. So yeah it's worth buying for those if you have some spare cash. But I will always prefer the Xbox and always get multiplatform games on that. All I use my PS3 for now is exclusives and if it wasn't for some of it's awesome exclusives, I probably would have sold it by now.

Same here, I'd like a PM as to why it sucks. I've read a few reviews on GameFAQs that range from 2/10 to 10/10.

Uncharted 3 will be game of the year - anyone who can't recognize that by now is fooling themselves. So basically, do you think $250 is worth missing out on that?
Fanboy much?

To be honest, I would suggest getting the smallest PS3, buying the game and a new hard drive. I think it would work out cheaper.

To be perfectly honest the PS3 is good for everything else but most games are on other consoles and the exclusives are not very noticeable. The only thing I think is a good exclusive for the playstation is inFamous. I own a PS3 but I will be getting a Gears of War 3 Xbox as nobody on my friends list for the PS3 is online (they are not close friends), this is why I am getting the Xbox as I am an online kind of person. I have to get Cod as my clan's on the PS3 but knowing that I will be disappointed by it like the last one.

You might be better of buying a blu-ray dvd player and something to store your music and videos on.

You can create Uncharted by breeding a crap version of gears of war with tomb raider to get the same effect.

Do what I did, convince your best friend to buy one and whenever you want to play a game go over their house. Also when playing theirs and realize you want more than six games you buy yourself one and already have a library of games.

I would say so, yeah. The console war is more or less over, because neither of the existing consoles have that much of an edge over each other anymore, except for the occasional console exclusives they get.
