I'm about to receive a little monetary bonus from work for completing my 6 month probationary period without f**king up. I want to treat myself to something in the £100-150 range.

I don't really want to use it for more than movies and the SNK Arcade Classics & Sega Genesis Collections sets.

So PSP users, experiences, advice, good games? I generally like action games but I can be sold on RPGs as this is going to be killing commuter time.

Only get one if you get one of the new ones with a glare resistant screen, without it you have to be in a dark room to see anything.

Can't really think of any game recommendations, I only play Two Brotherhood of The Blade games and Sid Meiers Pirates. Also get a hard case, anyone who tries with that crappy pocket type thing eventually breaks it.

Get a DS instead.

I'd definately recommend it, I don't see why everyone always hates it, I love mine, its great for watching movies on a long journey or something, and theres a great selection of games for it.

He said that he only really wants it for the ability to play movies and for the Genesis classics and stuff.

Although I don't own a PSP (I would suggest a DS but that's not what you're asking) I've heard that the God of War and Killzone games are not too shabby if you're after action games.

Just get it for GTA, Pirates!, and emulation - and why would you pay for classics collections?

Are there any good games on the DS? I'm kind of eyeing up Metal Slug, Phantasy Star IV, King O' Fighters, Sonic 2. Not really buying the whole touch screen bull with the DC. More of a retro guy.

Other options? Is there clever emulation trickery afoot?

Bought 2-3 games, 2-3 movies, never touched it again cause I don't travel much.

Waste of my money.
I'm not to worried about not touching it as I have an hours commute each way to work.

Then you should get one. If you travel a lot it really helps with boredom, though I would recommend getting (if you get one) God of War: Chains of Olympus second hand as I have heard it is quite short. Fun, but short.

Just get a PSP v. 1 off eBay or reverse your firmware (I think there's some Lumines game that can abet you with this) so you can emulate NES/SNES/GEN/etc. games. I'm sure several guides would come up if you googled it; the PSP is the hottest thing for homebrew and emulation since Sega forgot to give the DC copy protection. Remember: only suckers bay for 16-bit.

Oh, and for the record - N64 emulation is supposedly on the way, too, though it's pretty laggy at present.

No. It's not. Spend your money on an Eee instead.
150 pounds worth of ecstasy? That would trump any handheld.

Got one, no seating on train/buses. Normally can find something to lean against though.

Hmmm. I don't know. That sounds like a lot of effort. I'm only look at 30 quid to get the two collections and there must be a benefit in having the newer machines. I certainly appreciate the help though.

I really like the idea of having something like Phantasy Star IV on it. That's got to be hours of gameplay right there. Stuff like Metal Slug will keep me making angry noises during commuter hours.

The touchscreen on the DS works really well and is utilised brilliantly in heaps of games (much much better then how the control features of the Wii have been utilised thus far). If you're deciding over what handheld to get based upon games then I'd suggest a DS.

I should probably tell you that I own a DS so of course I will sound biased, but it is the best console I have ever bought!!! There is a huge range of great action/adventure games and RPGs and they use the touch screen and dual screen brilliantly.

If you're a retro guy then the DS is still good for you, plenty of classic games have been remade for it: particularly FF3 and Front Mission. The current-model DS also has a slot for GBA games and there are plenty of retro classics there too (even Doom!).

Sorry if I'm gushing but I my socks were decidedly knocked off when I got my DS and started perusing and playing the titles on offer.
