Are there any good games on the DS? I'm kind of eyeing up Metal Slug, Phantasy Star IV, King O' Fighters, Sonic 2. Not really buying the whole touch screen bull with the DC. More of a retro guy.
The touchscreen on the DS works really well and is utilised brilliantly in heaps of games (much much better then how the control features of the Wii have been utilised thus far). If you're deciding over what handheld to get based upon games then I'd suggest a DS.

I should probably tell you that I own a DS so of course I will sound biased, but it is the best console I have ever bought!!! There is a huge range of great action/adventure games and RPGs and they use the touch screen and dual screen brilliantly.

If you're a retro guy then the DS is still good for you, plenty of classic games have been remade for it: particularly FF3 and Front Mission. The current-model DS also has a slot for GBA games and there are plenty of retro classics there too (even Doom!).

Sorry if I'm gushing but I my socks were decidedly knocked off when I got my DS and started perusing and playing the titles on offer.
But if you hold off for the new DS, there will apparently be downloadable content (like the Wii's VC), but no GBA slot.

It's that DLC that's going to be the deal-maker or -breaker for me. If it compensates enough for the no GBA slot (read: allows me to play GBA ROMs), then I'll buy it. If they screw me over, I will not.

Get a DS instead.
Yeah I have got to admit that there are only two or three games I would get if I bought a PSP. But there is so much more for the DS, Nintendo really has the upper hand in the hand-held sector, after all they have been doing it longer then anyone else.

WH40k: Squad Command. Hands down.
I also like Patapon and Exit. Blokus is insanely cheap over here.

You'll want to get Handbrake or DVD Catalyst to do video conversion.

If you get a PSP, get the 2000 model. Apparently the new 3000 models have screen interlacing issues. It's not TOO bad, but the 3000 models "new" screen is not a big improvement and with the new 3000 model out, the 2000 model will go down in price. Get a screen protector for the love of god, it's no joke, these things as brilliant as they are can be pretty damn fragile.

I don't see why people hate the thing so much, it's not a bad system at all and anyone who says there are no games for it probably don't even go looking for good games. I have a ever growing library of games, and I could list of a shit ton of games. I would list them off, but i'v done it in past discussions and I have made it clear the PSP is not a waste of money like some people see it as.

Oh and can we please leave out the damn "get a DS" comments. he's asking about the PSP, so instead of encouraging him to go for the other system, give him reason to go an get a PSP. Every argument I have ever heard regarding the PSP can easily be applicable to the DS, no joke.

Thank you. To be brutally honest, I'm a traditionalist and the DS can shove its touch pen where it naturally fits. I'm essentially attracted to the PSP for the SNK collection and the Genesis collection. Both cost about £10-15 over here and have a lot of classics I love and a lot I want to try. If a DS can get me metal slug, kid chameleon and sonic 2 then please let me know!

I own both and I do use my DS a lot more, the PSP is not the bestest system when it comes to portability and there are not the heavy game hitters that are on the DS. If you have a PS3 though, the connectivity can be an asset.

I am more inclined to recommend a DS however.

well if you like metal slug, the PSP has the metal slug anthology. 7 Metal slug games on one umd full of awesome. I don't know if you like racing games, but the wipeout games on it are fucking sweet. Wipeout pulse even lets you add your own sound tracks to it. And the PSP is in no shortage of RPG's, even if there a few remakes. I can list off tons of good games, and many on the rise, don't listen to these people saying there are no good games, that's a load of bullshit and they know it.

Ah...
While I'm not one to say anything nice about the PSP, I'll probably have to now, so I don't sound like a 'Yay Nintendo are great' person.
Well, if you get a PSP, first game I'd recommend: Medievil Ressurection. It's a great game, and I think it improves quite well on the original, which was just an unknown classic.

If you're asking about DS games, I'd recommend Elite Beat Agents if you're into Rhythm games. But if you aren't... Hm. I dunno, FullMetal Alchemist Dual Sympathy? It's really not as bad as the reviews say.

You want it for movies and videos and music?

Buy an Ipod Touch.

But if those games mean so much to you then buy the PSP.

Movies and music will be used but mostly the games.

What I'm thinking at the moment is:

PSP Slim & Lite
Sega Genesis Collection
Metal Slug Anthology

Should keep my retro hard on for a while.

New Super Mario Brothers Cool but not a selling point
Mariokart DS Played it, its not 64 and that's all I'm saying
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Don't care
Yoshi's Island Don't care
Mario 64 DS Don't care
Elite Beat Agents Dear god no
Jam Sessions (portable chord guitar, not strictly speaking a game) cool, but I'm musically incompetent
Ultimate Mortal Kombat Kind of cool but don't have friends with DSs to fight
Advanced Wars Ha ha ha, no
Final Fantasy 3 See above
Pokémon games in general (Yes. I KNOW. But they're still playable.) See above
Guitar Hero Don't like the main versions so I think Cramp Hero might not be my thing. Also why are there guitar soles in Sex Pistols songs ffs?
Cooking Mama ?
Brain Training/Sight Training My brain's fine, my eyesight is already fucked
Metal Slug 7 I'll get the anthology on the PSP

LOTS of games depending on your tastes.

It's a good buy; with games like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow and Dark Mirror, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Daxter, Both GTA's, Kingdome of Paradise, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Whipeout Pulse, Patapon, Crush, the two Mega Man Remakes, Dungeoun Siege, Silent Hill: Origins, etc. how can you go wrong? Plus you get to use skype, play music, play movies and surf the net (wi-fi that is). Get it man.

Sega Genesis Collection

Should keep my retro hard on for a while.
Retro stuff:

Activision Hits Remixed
BattleZone
Capcom Classics Collection Remixed
Capcom Puzzle World
Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars
EA Replay
Gitaroo Man Lives!
Gradius Collection
Guilty Gear Judgment
Lemmings
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play
Namco Museum Battle Collection
PaRappa the Rapper
Space Invaders Extreme
Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins

Not a complete list, and some are more retro than others, but there's no shortage. And on the other side of the coin, you can get a Pandora battery, hack the firmware, and download a proper emu and rip your own roms.

Got one, no seating on train/buses. Normally can find something to lean against though.
That's cool - grab yourself a Connect-a-Desk Laptop Holder from ThinkGeek.

Okay, I'm all up for you getting a PSP (I intend to get one myself some time), but this;

is BLASPHEMY!!!

But anyway, if it has the games you want then get it. Don't listen to the people who say it has no games, my DS barely gets any play time if any at all and not many games if any interest me for the DS. However, for the PSP I could easily list 10 or so games I would want for it, though I have been a Sony-boy since the Playstation.
