You could always save your money. Just because you've got money doesn't mean you have to spend it. Also, I've got a psp and haven't played it in over a year, that might suggest how fun they are.

would you care to elaborate why?

I mean, come on, that was just petty flame baiting. If you, I dunno, put some structure behind that sentence then it would probably be a more well informed reason as to why he shouldn't get a PSP.

But it didn't, so you were just flame baiting and trolling.

Alright home-slice, let me lay it out real simple for you. The PSP is NOT worth getting unless you are able to run homebrew on it. That is a fact.

If you do get Homebrew stuff running on it, that means you can put all your old PSX games on, as well as taking your PSP games off the discs, compressing them to CSOs (Compressed ISOs), and sticking them on the memory sticks so you don't have to cary a stack of UMDs everywhere you go. I currently have 11 games on my PSP, ranging from Jade Cocoon and Twisted Metal 2 for the PSX, to the Metal Slug Anthology for PSP. Heck, I even have a TI-whatever super graphing science calculator on there, just in case.

In addition to PSX and PSP games, you can also run SNES/GBA/NES games, some DOS games, a few N64 games... basically it leaves you with a huge library of portable titles.

I also recommend buying a used fat PSP, they're cheaper, and they support more versions of homebrew firmware. The fat PSPs also have an IR transmitter so you can turn your PSP into a universal remote (more useful than you would think.)

I'm about to receive a little monetary bonus from work for completing my 6 month probationary period without f**king up. I want to treat myself to something in the £100-150 range.

I don't really want to use it for more than movies and the SNK Arcade Classics & Sega Genesis Collections sets.

So PSP users, experiences, advice, good games? I generally like action games but I can be sold on RPGs as this is going to be killing commuter time.
For commuter times, you're better off with a portable DVD player if you want to play movies. I have seen movies on PSP (one of those Christmas ads last year), and while the graphics are great, the size of the screen itself doesn't allow you to see as well.

They had the same problem with the Sega Game Gear when you could buy the TV attachment as well. It made a pretty good game screen, but you couldn't get good visuals on TV.

If the only games you're interested in are SGC and Metal Slug, then you could get those on PS2 (trusting that you're a good hunter), and place the money in an iPod video. (Yes, I did assume you have a PS2; they're cheap if you can find a good second hand one, £90 if new.) The range of films om UMD is not impressive. Since the PSP is a games console first, media player second, there won't be a great deal of stuff to watch. I believe iTunes has a good range of films. One example in iTunes and not on UMD is Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...
All of this is stretching your budget a bit, so I'll leave you to weigh up.

It depends on what kind of a gamer you are. There isn't anything on the PSP that doesn't have an incarnation on some other platform. If you do a lot of traveling, and want better games for on the go than a phone, go for the DS. Cheaper and usually more fun games at a lower price than the PSP. If you don't travel too much, and are just looking for a new console, save up for the PS3. It will be worth it.

You crazy monkey; your baiting me.

I express my opinion towards the idea and you attack me personally by saying I'm petty and by questioning my intentions?

You even have the audacity to say I have to "structure" my post otherwise I'm a troll? I gave him my opinion and he could have considered it or not. But you decided to attack me.

And if you haven't noticed, my post was the way it was for comedic reasons. If I thought he need any more advice than the dozens of posts before me then maybe I would have "structured" it.

But I deemed it unnecessary and decided to just inform him that there was another person here that didn't think it was worth it.

Now if you still haven't realized that you were being a dick then I am afraid to inform you that it wasn't a temporary thing, your really just a dick.

My apologizes to the rest of the forum for flaming and deviating from topic. It still sucks compared to the DS though.

Problem is, you didn't reinforce your opinion. The OP is asking about wether or not to buy a PSP and what are it's pros and cons. Your post doesn't help him in any way towards his decision, you were just flame baiting saying that "PSPs suck!" and I fail to understand how that helps him decide if a PSP is worthy of a purchase or not because I'm pretty sure comments like that are usually considered fanboyish or flame baiting.

Even if there were 1000 posts before yours, your post would be unhelpful in anyway and just be spam.

And it was hardly an attack at all, I asked you to elaborate why "PSPs suck" . If it was all in good humour, I could understand that, but it's the internet and sarcasam is hard to detect on it. Maybe instead of just saying "PSPs suck" you could say "PSPs suck! But on a more serious note, I don't see a reason to buy a PSP" or something similar. You do need "structure" in your post otherwise you're just going "LOLOLOLOL PSP SUCKS" and leaving without giving a reason why you think that. The OP wants answers, you're not giving it to him.

But yes, the PSP is a dwarf compared to the DS. Nintendo has their rightful place in the handheld business.

Again, I was informing him that there was another person here that didn't like the idea. The logic your going with is that all the post before mine should all offer different or new advice and I'm willing to bet a fair penny that the reasons are repetitious, Like its boring or cost too much or whatever.

And your right "PSPs suck" is fanboyish, but it gets the point I'm trying to get across. My reasons for not buying one are like just like everyone else, its boring or cost too much or bad games or whatever. But instead or repeating this really apparent reason, I informed him that there was another person that believes this, though in different words.

Now I'm going to retire, because I feel like an idiot continuing this.

Bahahahahha no. Although home brew is nice, it does not mean you MUST have it to enjoy the PSP. I don't have any of that homebrew stuff, i have been contemplating it for a while, but me and many non-cfw users that I have talked to still enjoy the psp and think it's worth it. Custom firm ware is more like an extra bonus than a must have.

I will never understand why people pull the same stupid arguments out every time when they bash the PSP, and I get sick of seeing these lies get spread and ruining the reputation of a good gaming platform. I am quite glad that there is another hand held on the market, it's refreshing and actually offers consumers some sort of choice now. Nintendo rightfully has their place there but hey, they have been there for 2 decades...don't expect them to vanish over night. I never expected the PSP to destroy the DS and be the new top hand held, but at least it's an alternative, and a good one too.

If that's what you meant, then your wording was horrible >_>; But yeah, I'll stop continuing this.

If the PSP has enough games for you to warrant a purchase, then get one.

The thing is, what makes the PSP unique, and truelly merits its worth is its ability to do things outside the spectrum of the normal handheld gaming machine. Without the custom firmware the PSP is "just another handheld" with no touch-screen, nothing to differentiate it from a high-powered gameboy/gamegear/linx.
Yes, the PSP has games for it, yes many of the games are good, but they still don't have that many of them. It would truly be wasteful not to use custom firmware on it. That would be like buying a Ferrari and never driving it over 20mph.

Get a PSP in my honest opinion its the best hand held out there I mean the DS is OK but at its heart its just a gimmick I mean nowadays Nintendo makes games the same way a scientist determines how to get the best reaction out of a lab monkey. PS I would definitely have to recommend Medievil Resurrection, Fat princess fistful of cake, silent hill shattered memories, and grand theft auto liberty city story's.
