Is a purchase of Fez worth it today?

I plugged in my 360 today after quite a long hiatus (built a gaming PC a few months ago), and downloaded a bunch of trials of new (to me) XBLA games to see if I wanted to pick any up. I loved Fez, and I'm excited to explore more and find every cube in the damned thing, but what I've read lately doesn't sound promising.

Basically, if I download it today will I end up losing my entire save, have a relatively high chance of a game-breaking bug, or anything off-putting like that? Is it worth it if I download it, then go offline to avoid patching if I do get it? Any help/input from those who've played it would be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, the bug only affects people who received the patch when they'd almost finished the game. By all accounts, bugs are fairly rare in the game (though the "less than 1%" statistic the creator gave us sounds somewhat optimistic).

I don't own a 360, so this is all stuff I've heard on the grapevine. Take that as you will, but I've heard that it's absolutely fine for most people.

From what I heard it just happens when you had a save file before the save data deleting update was introduced. So if you start a new game with the game already patched your savedata should be save (heh)

I wanted to buy Fez but the creator sounded like a douche in an interview so I didnt. But I'm going to check out the demo and maybe change my mind.

No because it was made by Phil Fish and fuck Phil Fish.
Man, if i wouldn't buy stuff because of people involved being assholes, i'd be living a pretty minimalistic life.

Game's still great, even though a bit TOO cryptic for it's own good.

Definitely yes!

I agree with what was said above, the patch only effected people far into the game! and I have never had a bug myself... the game works perfectly for me!

It is a really awesome game though, definitely worth getting, no matter who made it!

The save file bug only affected a small amount of people who were near the end of the game, and any other bugs are insignificant.

Fez is amazing and one of my favourite games. You should buy it straight away.

Thank you, mind officially cleared. And I saw Indie Game: The Movie so I know how neurotic and off-putting the man is, I'm interested in the game. I would never hang out with a dude who cut his ear off, but I could stare at his paintings for hours...

I was about 2/3rds of the way to 100%, and I just noticed the crash bug yesterday--does that mean that I have to go and start a completely new game?

The game is quite prone to crashing so don't worry if it does that. My save file is still intact though so I don't really know if there are any procedures to revive a file or if you just have to start over.

Yes it's worth it. It's a great game. Don't let public opinion of Fish put you off.

Wow. I am so glad that there were so many recommendations. When
The game "crashes" like it's supposed to and you see the fake BIOS my wife yelled "Dammit! I'm sorry babe, I thought they said it was okay!"
but that was good for a laugh.

At first I was frustrated, trying to mentally map out where I was and using the in-game map to no avail, but the game just "clicked" and the magic started happening when I quit caring about where I was and how I got there and just explored. This game isn't revolutionary, but rather a magnum opus building on the collect-a-thon platformers that paved the way to it.

I've spent my time somewhat like watching a Miyazaki anime, weaving to and fro between enjoying the core content at hand and getting lost in the audio/visual splendor of it all. Any random screenshot could be sold as a poster for twice the price of the entire game. If anyone hasn't picked this up, it's absolutely worth it. Especially if you're looking to re-capture the wide-eyed wonder of gaming from your youth.
