Just to be specific I am reffering to the consumption of alcohol by you the creator of the original problem. Anyway before I hear a single massive unanimous 'NO!' from the witty audience that is the escapist community let me delve a little deeper into a potentially conterversial subject. When you have a problem most times you seek to solve it. While alcohol may not neccessarilly solve your problems. It generally makes them not bother you as much. They are easier to deal with. And in moderation a problem that is bothering you can be drowned out by alcohol for a long period of time. This may not neccessarily be a good thing. But Then again it might. You tell me.

Depends on the problem. A break up that you do not need to deal with further? Okay, maybe. You got fired and you need to go looking for a new job? Not such a good one.

Everything is dictated by circumstance. This case is no exception. I do think, though, the majority of problems you would "reach for the bottle" for are not ones you can deal with by just putting them off. And as long as this behaviour was a controlled one, say, going out on the lash with mates for a night or two as opposed to getting up at 5am and swigging your first JD into your Cheerios in the morning, I think it is an acceptable behaviour.

We don't criticize people who turn to a big box of chocolates for solace. I think the argument I'd hear there is that drink is a much more damaging solution, but chocolate has more of the high-low factor that causes emotional yoyo-ing and, of course, excessive consumption can make you put on a few pounds which I know would be an even bigger problem than the original for alot of people in my area, causing them to be more depressed.

So, yes. Controlled, okay. Can't handle it, keep away from it.

If you have problems you should confront them, not hide from them in the pub. It is retarded to suggest that abusing a substance is the answer. This Panda spent 2 years working behind a bar and can say from his experience that alcohol should be used to enhance good times, otherwise it is just self destructive.

Id have to agree with MajukaRinye on this one. I think certain problems that dont really have a specific solution can be solved by excess amounts of booze.

The only problem that alcohol can effectively solve is a sobriety problem, as in the problem is I'm sober, so I'll fix it with alcohol.

If your problem is being too sober, certainly.

But seriously, I would let it go as far as a social lubricant other than that winners don't use drugs.

I totally agree.

I'm not encouraging that you end up in a gutter after a breakup or anything. I just feel that a pint or two down the pub to get you joking and laughing with some mates is a good way of relieving that particular issue for a time.

However, beyond the case-closed problems, I don't see a use for alcohol in solving them.

Alcohol isn't necessarily a good way to solve your problems but damn is it a fun way to forget them.

Any real people?
Batman's a scientist

Can they drink and smoke. Because there's obviously loads that do those two. Other than that anyone who doesn't drink and isn't Batman is untrustworthy.

Being a swimmer, I think not. I believe I can be tested positive for alcohol and some of the stuff found in cigarettes. And I win stuff. Sometimes. Do I count? =P

you stole my idea :p

tho i will say it's not great to drown everything in drink, it is good to help blow off some steam and relax a bit instead of stressing out more. as long as it's a short term thing it's ok, to keep drinking is a bad thing

lets break this down, removing alcahol and replacing it with water, and the crippling emotional problem you are facing with a flat tyre on your car.

"hmm. my tyre is flat"
......
"I'm gonna get some water"
......
"Hmmm. the tyre's still flat, and it will stay that way, apparently, until i fix it"

I think i've made my point
