There has been primarily more Republican Presidents than Democratic Presidents. Even in the 1960's, the US has been primarily conservative, despite the very VOCAL liberal members. In the 2000 and 2004 elections, despite the pro liberal media blitz, Bush was elected. Is America a primarily conservative or liberal country? I think it's primarily conservative personally.

The Republicans have been conservative since maybe Hoover (and he's debatable). Between Lincoln and Coolidge, on the other hand...

What liberal media? Air America is only a few years old.

By who's standards? By our own, we're quite moderate. Compared to the Middle East, we're fairly liberal (although certain countries are starting to catch up). Compared to Europe, we're conservative.

The people are slightly to the right, the government is naturally left. Ask the people whether they want more or less government intervention in their lives, and usually you will get a less response.

well i try not to care much about this stuff. The entire liberal vs. conservative thing is just a lot of worthless talk in my opinion.

also about your statement about there being more republican presidents, well that may be true but back when the republican party was founded the roles were reversed they were the more "liberal" ones.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
no, its mostly mid to left but the conservatives are just loud and constant so it seems like there are more of them. Really ppl dont really know what libral means since conservatives have done a rather good job of demonizing it as being weak.

AWWW HELL NO!

Nearly the entire media is left wing, and the media controls the people.

I myself am mostly right wing, except for the religious shit.

For more details on my politics, ask...

Somewhere in the middle. Sadly, I'm living in conservative central, so talking about politics is like strapping raw, bloody steaks to your body and walking into a wolf pit with the pipe from Silent Hill 2...

It seems a lot more logical that there are just more conservative voters who give a shit about going to the polls. Didn't you only have like 40% average voter turn out for most of the past 3 decades?

America isn't primarily anything. Its just a damn mess of people, claiming to be part of one group or another, each claiming to be victorious over the other all the time.

Just because someone claims to be part of a group doesn't mean they are what the group says they should be.

From an outsiders P.O.V I'd say you were more Conservative or right wing. Though having read most comments on this website and others, Americans seem to be more to the left and more liberals. Right wingers tend to be extremely vocal and often get a lot of coverage because of this. Also from an outsiders P.O.V I would say American right wingers are insane and need locking up (they look like the type who would kill some one just for disagreeing with their policies). However from coming to forums and reading on the internet, a good amount of the right wingers I've seen seem to be pretty sensible people, despite our disagreements.

Compared to what countries?

Compared to the world, we're pretty liberal. Open, free elections where your vote remains private (Saddam kept winning in Iraq because his Republican Guard looked over people's sholders in the voting booths).

Granted, the US has had scandals involving election fraud (mrhappyface forgot about the Florida election scandal involving numerous absentee ballots not being counted because a court found in favor of Bush).

Still, we have a free market, anti-trust laws, the Bill of Rights and sixteen other Amendments to the Constitution (even though one cancelled out the other on a federal level) guaranteeing essential liberties and empowering our government to provide us with safety from threats foreign and domestic.

I'll go with the mathematician's answer to your question: yes.

It's a logical answer (don't ask about it though).

I'm surprised at the fact bricks are being thrown through windows and all this violence (actually, no I'm not, but it annoys me that no one has grown up after all these years).

You could also consider the conservative side to employ neo-liberalism in aspects such as the economy, so it depends on your definition of "liberal".

But to stop being annoying, I have definitely seen the hard-line conservatives to be the most vocal and noticeable (possibly because the hard-line liberals, according to the hard-line conservatives, are all hippies who are too busy smoking weed that they want everyone to have, and letting terrorists into the country, to make themselves noticeable).

To be honest, I have no idea which side is more prominent. I have met both sides, though the internet, according to others, is more liberally-inclined, so I'm getting a skewed view.

I'd have to visit America and find out, but that would involve inter-continental travel, which would involve ships or planes, and I hate travelling in each.

Ah well, I'll survive in ignorance.

Ay. It seems that every time one group disagrees with another, it writes it off as a "vocal minority."

"Conservative" and "Liberal" are completely relative terms based on the culture that you are in. I live in a city that is super liberal compared with the rest of the country, so I'm considered a conservative here. If I were to move to Salt Lake City then I'd be a liberal there.

Liberal and Conservative are Economical ideas. Extreme Liberal Economics are Socialist and Communist, Extreme Conservative Economics is an unregulated Free-Market Capitalist System.
The Social Ideas are Authoritarian and Libertarian, Extreme Authoritarian is a Fascist Dictatorship, Extreme libertarianism is Anarchy. Our Country is Fiscally Conservative, but leans more to Libertarianism when it comes to social aspects. Free-Market Capitalism with Some Government Regulation on Economic and Social Aspects.
This Site is Really Great: http://www.politicalcompass.org/

As for everyone's opinion of Americans appearing more one way or the other I'd blame a lack of education on actual politics. Some of the excuses for why we're 'Liberal' or 'Conservative/Republican' is downright ridiculous and shallow.
