Is American media always more violent in general went it wants to be?

Is American media generally more violent than its overseas counterparts?

(Comics, movies, games, tv, etc.)

our violence is pretty mild compared to many anime.

Blood + in particular. Somehow enemies have 10x more blood in them than you would think is possible. although honestly i have no idea what European media is like other than Top Gear.

I doubt it. I've seen foreign media that's far more extreme than anything from America. Look at stuff from Asia, or Europe.

Someones never read Berserk. I find Western media tends to have a heavier focus on violence over all but I wouldn't say it is more violent or brutal necessarily.

Most of the people in my generation were raised on violence. People thought nothing of taking their children to R rated movies and I remember going to elementary school and discussing which Jason or Freddy kill from the movie we saw that weekend was the coolest. Even our favortie cartoons were generally war or battle based, "Yooo Joe!". So when it comes to the violence in our media, most of the time we don't even notice it and we look at people weird when they do. That said, other places are just as bad, if not worse. People have already mentioned Japan but have you read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or the novel version of Let the Right One In. I know it's cold up there but damn Sweden!

And how do they compare against a game about raping people? Or tentacle hentai? Oh, and have you seen Akira? The 10 year old me would have been way less upset, if he saw something from the list above, rather than Akira on the cartoon section. Hell, the 10 year old me had played DooM 2 extensively by that point and I wasn't the least bit unsettled.

Piranha, despite being stupid had a scene where a motorboat propellor tears of a woman's scalp and face. That's far worse.

Battle Royale was pretty bloody brutal, and I use the adjective 'bloody' as a double-pronged word. Most Japanese films that dedicate themselves to gore are far more terrible than their American cousins, I find.

Morals really, that and the FCC. Can't have sex on TV but you can have violence. Me personally I would rather have violence on TV than sex because violence you practically apply to more things. You can't exactly sex zombies or aliens to death.

I think it's more that the majority of american content tends to be less explicit in other areas e.g. sex so maybe it's a perception born of the greater contrast.

I think sexing aliens could be quite effective

You don't build lasting nations or empires by conquering things, you build them by having sex with the natives til the cultures involved are indistinguishable.
