I didn't care about its use until it was used in The Hobbit. By a bloody goblin. It just sounded so wrong.

I love Willy! Wilhelm and his scream are amazing!
Wait.....wrong Wilhelm.

OT I think if used right it fits. I personally never thought it was funny I just think it fits.

I still chuckle on the inside. So no. Ever since I found out what the scream was 3 years ago, I still don't mind it at all.

It will never go away

Pfft, when you have to do sound editing, every sound effect becomes as familiar as Wilhelm. It's especially jarring the first time you hear a sound separated from the place you first heard it.

I have to admit, when I noticed it in The Hobbit, it took me out of the experience a little bit. It is just a few seconds though. Let the film makers keep their little joke.

Well, considering I chuckled at the first 12 clips in that video you posted, I'd say I'm not sick of it at all.

I started picking up on it a few years back, and whenever I hear it, it makes me smile. Most recently in The Hobbit I noticed it, and while it did take me out of the experience for a SECOND, I quickly got back in. It's harmless, in my book. But I suppose I can understand if it really bugs you.

PS., There are Wilhelm screams in Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast?! How the hell did I never notice that?

It's a harmless in-joke between sound designers. Most people don't even notice it, let alone recognize it and let it take them out of the experience. So, no.

Before I knew about the Wilhelm scream: I didn't have an opinion of it

Immediately after finding out about the Wilhelm Scream: "HA! Cool! I never knew about that! I'm going to look out for it in so many movies!"

1 Month after finding out about the Wilhelm Scream: "AHA! I spotted it in that film! *Chuckle*"

2 Months after finding out about the Wilhelm Scream: "Ha. Yeah. Thought I recognized that sound!"

3 Months after finding out about the Wilhelm Scream: "Yep. That's the scream."

4 Months after finding out about the Wilhelm Scream: "Har Har. Very funny. Wilhelm scream. Yeah. Great".

5 Months after finding out about the Wilhelm Scream: "Urrrrrrrrgggghhhh. No. I don't care anymore. This is the most played out thing ever".

Ever since I learned about what it was it's begun to get on my nerves a bit, because hacks are overusing it. I fucking know whoever is running the show for that shitty Star Wars cartoon doesn't know when to stop, if I recall in one episode I sat through I counted the damn thing used no less than five times...all in the same ten minute battle.

I've made a sport out of trying to spot it in movies. Problem is, at this point it takes me right out of the experience, either because i'm listening for it, or just because it has to be the least genuine sounding human scream in sound recording history.

I would like to point out that it might be an in-joke to some but it also gets used because its a non-copyrighted stock sound

As long as it doesn't pop up in a movie like Schindler's List I'm fine with it.
I've always found it pretty amusing, and it's not like it's used in every single movie ever made.

I don't really notice it but then I don't watch that many movies so I don't hear it enough for it to get annoying I guess.

First time I remember hearing it was when I watched Star Wars Empire Strikes Back..... just before Han gets Carbonited. (is that a word?)

Dude, it's a 60 year long running joke, we can't have it stop now, it's too late!

I actually find the Howie Scream more annoying. The Wilhelm scream is short, and it's usually used as a gag. The Howie scream is almost always used in big serious fight scenes though and it's longer, so that's the immersion breaker. I first really noticed the Howie scream in The Matrix, in the rooftop scene with the agent, although I'm fairly certain it was used in Robocop before that. Now it's just everywhere.

I fucking love the Wilhelm scream. Whenever I hear it in a movie, I giggle with delight.

Then I promptly move on and enjoy the film instead of dwelling on it. :D

I don't think I could ever be sick of it though. In fact, I'm now going to watch all the videos linked in this thread!

Away~

Edit: Yup, still giggling like an insane person.
