I'm not tired of the FPS genre in general, but I am tired of the CoD style military FPS.

I enjoy the genre... but I'm DEFINITELY ready for something else to be the "big" thing. It's getting ridiculous, and we are starting to see more and more wannabe-clones.

It's starting to get annoying. It seems like the CoD series is starting to lose its popularity, so hopely it's time for a change.

Skyrim-esque fantasy RPG-FPSlashers, anyone?

I was, but then I played the Tribes: Ascend beta. It's fast, skilful, and fucking hilarious. An FPS hasn't had me screaming out loud since Far Cry: Instincts predator mode on the Xbox. To all that have lost faith in the genre, try it out.

It is my opinion that a shooter is only as interesting as what you are shooting at and what weapon you're using.

I'm not tired of the FPS genre, I'm tired of the "realistic" shooter sub-genre (Call of Duty, Battlefield, et cetera.)

If I want a plain old military assault rifle, I'll go buy one (America, whoo...). Give me a Gravity Gun, a Needler, a Lancer, or a gun that shoots shuriken and lightning.

Instead of generic brown-tinted men who all look and act the same; give me zombies, robots, space aliens, and demons.

In short, I want to play shooters that are imaginative. The coolest enemy you can fight in Call of Duty is an Arab with a rocket launcher. The coolest enemy you can fight in Halo is a thirty-foot tall, purple spider robot that climbs walls, shoots gigantic energy beams out of its face, and is crewed by a half a dozen warhammer-wielding gorrilla-men from another planet.

I actually haven't played any FPS's in months. Last one I played I believe was...Black Ops about five or six months ago.

I have not bought MW3, BF3, or any other of the shooters during shooter season. I'm actually getting the urge to go out and get myself an XBL Gold card again so I can play some Reach or Halo 3.

But that probably won't happen until late March or April, as I'm keeping this money around so I can afford ME3.

Its a problem but what other genre of gaming could have multiplayer so easily other than of course racing.
Perhaps a well done dogfighting game or a game where you can only fight in vehicles or a game where you duke it out with like 30+ people on a medival battlefeild with period weapons.
I know that many consoles can only support up to twenty four or so players but without guns and constant explosions the game might handle it.

Nope, my teenage years were dominated by playing counter strike at lan centers.
Granted I've branched out significantly as a gamer but I never really get completely tried of FPS games.
The only genre I've burnt out on is JRPGs, I think after the 2nd Golden Sun, I was like yea, no more, I've seen this nonsense over and over. And I never picked up another JRPG.

I'm not sick of playing them because I don't play them that often, but I do wish companies would put there resources to other genres that I do like. Or even ones I don't just to mix it up and have more variety, maybe they could make me interesting in trying that genre again.

Nope, although that may be because the only FPS game I play with any regularity is the CoD series (not including FPRPGs here). One thing that does annoy me in the FPS genre is the people insisting that the one they play is that best and that said game is without criticism. (almost like the platform war).

I think you could argue that FPS isn't a genre, its a camera angle. But thats neither hear no their, since I get your point, which is "Are you tired of CoD clones?"

The answer to that is, to a certain extent, yes. But I still enjoy a game of CoD or Halo with my friends (local multiplayer all the way) every once in a while.

Just don't go lumping games that are trying new things (Deus Ex, Borderlands, BioShock (regardless of your opinions of those games you must admit they are at least pushing the boundaries slightly)) with the same ol' corridor shooters, because I am not getting tired of those at all.

I love FP games that aren't shooters but let you shoot guns.

Yes, that is very specific.
This. I dislike FPSs, especially war ones, but Mirror's Edge is my favorite game. I fire two bullets, one to break a window and one to bust a car. If I'm forced to fire bullets at people from a first person perspective, this typically annoys me.

Indeed. I'm starting to hope that old-school RPGs will be popular in a nearby future.

BioShock.

I'm tired of the trend FPS's have been taking - with the majority of them following CoD-esque paths - but it's not a shit genre overall. It's produced quite a few gems.
