Is anyone really THAT surprised about Colonial Space Marines?

I wouldn't say I thought it was going to be crap, but when a title is stuck in development hell like that plus it being a licensed game.. yeah, I didn't have high hopes. At best, I figured it was likely to be a thouroughly average experience.

I beat the single player last night.
I enjoyed it.
I'm having fun with the multiplayer.
That said, MP animations have missing frames, framerate drops at the worst of times, and the story was predictable at best.
Also, the level where there are two APCs was bullshit.
"Okay, so these parked APCs are going to spawn enemies in random waves, and take out a health bar if you're in the open for more than two seconds. And we'll put the cover three seconds apart, and have terrible checkpointing, just like the rest of the campaign. People will love this!"

I don't think it deserves as much hate as it's been getting. Ignoring the fact that it's an alien game that promised the moon, it's a 5-6 out of 10 (Where 5 is the average, not the stupid "7 is average" scale). The Escapist actually had one of the better reviews of it I'd seen.
Oh, and the A-LIE-ns video has a few things Jim said weren't in the game (like the marine getting grabbed by the tail) that are in the game, in that level. They just happen fast, and you can be looking away. That section is also much longer in the game than in the demo.

Maybe it's just that Gearbox is plain unlucky. They keep picking up games that have bounced from dev to dev for years, and end up being rushed to finish the products so as not to dissapoint gamers yet again, and end up causing more dissapontment than had they just dropped the projects like everyone else.

I`m still going to play the game. After watching the Jimquisition about Aliens:cm ist`s still disapointing, it`s out of question that the console version of the game wouldn`t look like the ten minute demo in terms of texture quality otherwise i haven`t seen nothing impossible. Even with the outdated console generation a Alien game like this should have been no problem. I don`t get it. The 2010 AVP looks better to me there`s no reason why the final release is like this.
Like i already wrote i`ll play this game not at full price and maybe it`s just a rental.
It feels like Killzone 2 allover again which is not ok, i mean it`s 2013 and at least KZ2 delivered.

A friend of mine showed me a trailer for that game, and it had the generic actiony-guy narration over it, and I told him that the game looked like a boring, generic, mess, and that I highly doubted it was any good. A week later?

After seeing one or two gameplay videos i thought it would at least be worth 7.5 out of 10, but not this. I wasn't that interested in it in the first place.

I thought that it would be middle of the road, not a bomb. I'm sorry for saying this, but ever since Brothers in Arms their writing quality has been missed attempts at comedy by using memetic references and the atmosphere/world building hasn't been all there. Again, just what I think, I'm not the world's biggest Borderlands lover. Letting other cooks mess with the soup only makes the situation worse.

I prescribe the making of a relatively inexpensive game that isn't an FPS, to let them relax and get the creative juices flowing again. Or maybe they're an FPS studio for life, who knows.

I originally guessed it would be bad because Alien games are never good and I didn't understand why everyone was getting hyped up about it. I eventually saw Angry Joe's "Top 10 Reason's that Aliens:Colonial Marines would kick ass" which convinced me I may have been a bit to prejudgmental, then I saw the Kick Ass trailer which validated my earlier beliefs.

Mmmmm, that's some good trashing of Alien's core themes right there.

Biggest reason I didn't want get the game is because who want's to play as the meat sheilds of the Aliens universe? So, no. Not surprised at all really.

I'm surprised at the response, as I've said in other threads. I own the game, and it's nowhere near as bad as some are claiming it to be.

It looked like a cash-grab from the very start, I don't know why people had such high expectations. If someone would make a turn based tactics game, a horror game, or even an adventure game based in the Alien franchise, I might be interested in it.

I assumed it would still be the game they decided to make when they started. They turned it from squad based aliens game to AVP2010 with more machismo.

I wasn't expecting spectacular game, but I didn't expect it to fall as far as it did. They've made similar games with the AVP series and those by an large have been much better received(even the 2010 version) so it's not like the concept couldn't have worked.

the question is will we get another aliens game after this massive fail or is the alien franchise dead once and for all?
I really think it's time to draw a line under it and leave it at that, I really do. But Fox, well they'll milk this cash cow till it's 6 feet under.
