Because I am not feeling the hype. Maybe it's just where I live, or the fact that I haven't watched TV in more than a year, but no one is advertising AoU. I'm not seeing billboards, or ads on buses, even on YouTube. I have a feeling that they're focusing advertising on China or India or other largely populated countries, like Iron Man 3.

I mean, do they really need to?

Avengers the First was a runaway success. It's, like, the third highest grossing movie of all time or something. The Marvel brand in general is just hot right now, as evidenced by the fact that their last movie was about a bunch of dysfunctional dorks running around the galaxy with a sentient tree and a talking raccoon, and still made bundles of cash.

Marvel could vomit up a two hour movie of their studio's lunch break room at this point. They don't need hype. They just need to throw something out there.

I don't watch much TV so I wouldn't know if there are adds for it but I don't think they really need to. The internet is doing the hyping for them.

Did you see gardians of the galaxy? It was actually pretty good[small] for a movie based on a comic book[/small].

They don't need to spend money on advertisements, as soon as the movie hits cinema, everyone is going to be talking about it. So more money in their pockets. The gaming industry could learn a thog or two from them. Like Not spending so much money on hyping a game up and a tuly make a good game * cough* Destiny * cough*.

*Cough* Evolve *Cough*

*Cough* Titanfall *Cough*

*Cough* The Order: 1886 *cough*

*cough* Assassin's Creed: Unity *Cough*

It's an epidemic. I'm not preordering ANY games outside of brands I already trust or that have gone through successful betas.

Avengers 2 is hyped. Maybe not on TV but every time they release a new trailer word spreads fast. So the hype is there, it's just not explosive; more like a simmering heat that will explode when it finally comes out.

Given that Marvel's movies dominate the trending news EVERY SINGLE DAY, and the Age Of Ultron trailers keep setting records....
Yea, it's hyped.

Is the sky blue? the sun hot? sorry i thought this was "questions with obvious bloody answers" thread.

It's what they spend 2/3rds of the budget on.

You're not gonna see that anytime soon. Watch a gdc and you get people like bungie coming out and say that hundred million dollar advertising campaigns are worthwhile. So your average triple a will have an advertising budget 5-30 times as large as that of the coding budget.

Yes, its being hyped, but not necessarily by the studio. I think it was MovieBob who made this point sometime last year in that, thanks to social media, and the 24/7 news stream, everything is constantly being hyped by the fans. Remember when that first Ultron trailer was leaked? Within 24 hours the whole trailer had been pulled apart, analysed frame by frame, and speculated upon by pretty much every nerd on the internet.

Sadly, this is the world we live in now. This is why I never get excited about anything anymore. Well, that I'm an old man...

I'm actually un-hyped for it at this point. I was hyped, but I was very disappointed with Guardians of the Galaxy, so I've set my expectations to rock bottom for the rest of the MCU. Guardians was the first one of these MCU movies where I was sitting there (as a fan of older marvel cosmic stuff) going "This is all wrong, why?" Why did they have to do that to Yondu, founding member of the ACTUAL Guardians of the Galaxy D:

I know it was. I saw it twice, in fact. But if anyone else tried to pitch that movie to a Hollywood exec, they'd be laughed out of California.

Wasn't being insulting. Just pointing out that it was incredibly unusual.

You....you're joking, right? I mean, you can't possibly be serious, can you?

For the better part of two months I haven't been able to take a jaunt down the street or across the 'net without tripping over a fucking Age of Ultron ad. Almost all of my usual news feeds have been flooded with incessant news items and hype-laden interviews on the damn thing.

Yeah. The movie is being hyped. I'd wager at least half the studio's budget for the film was spent on advertising.

The real question is: How effective has it been? Lately I've noticed just as much apathy towards the film as I have excitement, so I'm curious to see if we're approaching the moment when the MCU bubble bursts.

As for me and my view on the film, well....

Maybe not as much as the first Avengers film, but yeah the trailers are basically having the internet geek out, and the internet leaks to real life people.

Granted I don't think they need to. Despite finding quite a lot of the MCU "meh" overall every single film they've released from The Avengers onwards has been a monster hit so it's ringing the dinner bell for the pigs to get their slop at this point (well, besides maybe Thor: The Dark World, my favourite non-Captain America MCU film but there you go).

That was certainly the impression I got watching Guardians of the Galaxy.

I don't know... I don't watch TV anymore, I don't really pay attention to billboard ads or things of that nature so I wouldn't know if they are or not. I don't think it matters anyway because I'm going to see this movie. James Spader alone is enough to get me to go see it.
Sorry, I just love the shit out of Spader's work and Blacklist is an awesome show (he carries the rest of the cast mind you but damn its still awesome). So him as Ultron? Hell fucking yes.
And the not-fucked-in-the-head Olson kid and Kick-Ass? Ok I can get behind them, they're pretty solid actors.

Still they had me at that after-party teaser and the whole freaky Pinnochio theme. Good call Disney.

Age of Ultron is easily the most hyped up movie of 2015 besting even Star Wars. All i see everywhere is people talking and discussing this film. In fact I'd say this film has been hyped way too much that's it's actually causing me a headache.Every Internet forum or movie news site i go has Age of Ultron stuff everywhere its too much.Non non movie websites has Age of Ultron everywhere. Yeah I'll go see it but don't keep reminding me every 2 seconds.

Besides the first two trailers, it's mostly gone below the radar for me.
I mean I don't need to get hyped for it. The marvel movies are at worst, ok, and at best, awesome.

I think that makes it appealing to people. You never have to worry that you wasted 10 bucks on in incredibly crappy movie.

Yes.

*Roll credits*

Okay okay a serious answer. Billboards don't start rolling out until about a week and a half before the movie is out and be ready for more TV ad spots.

Oh, and the hype? Nah, I'm suffering from comic book movie fatigue at the moment because we will have too much of that in 2016 so I am just keeping it calm now. This year I will not watch Age of Ultron... in 3D. My eyes and 3D do not work well together.
