Some of you may know that Ubisoft is releasing Beyond Good & Evil HD. It will be releasing on XBLA and PSN in 2011. Now as some of you may know, Beyond Good & Evil wasn't a hit commercially. Because of its lack of commercial success, Ubisoft is most likely skeptical to invest in Beyond Good & Evil 2. If this game gets moderate success it may be possible Ubisoft will give the okay to start production on BG&E2. Do you think this is a marketing stunt to get people excited about Beyond Good & Evil 2, or is it a test to see if the should make Beyond Good & Evil 2? Discuss!

It's probably because they can make more money off the cult classic and maybe introduce new people to it. With the added bonus of going "Oh yea, there's a sequel soon, you should buy it".
As for the sequel, I'm fairly sure they're already making it. At least, there's a trailer and whatnot out there.

EDIT: Found the Wikipedia Article [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_Good_%26_Evil_2] on the sequel, which says it's still being made. I was suddenly very paranoid about that.

Well considering ubisofts ceo told kotaku about a month and a half ago that they are and have been working on the second one for some time i'd say its just being used as hype since not that many people played it when it originally came out

Sorry, the last I heard it was on indefinite hold.

It's a marketing campaign for BG&E2 that pays for itself.

And yes, it's probably also to test the waters.

Yeah there was a mix up in may and everyone thought Michel Ancel had left and that it was put on hold

Well, if BG&EHD has a good reception and convinces them to finish it then woot.

I'm just glad to be able to play the first one after hearing how great it is for the past X years.

BG&E was a really solid game. It had a great story, interesting and believable characters, and a fairly mature theme under all the usual platformer goofiness.

It had a few graphical glitches and doesn't work too well with new OSs though, so hopefully this one will have the bugs and stuff hammered out. Maybe even add some side stuff. If they released an HD version I'd get it just because, so whether it's a test or a marketing ploy I'm all for it.

As already stated Bgae 2 is in development and i think this may just be a way to get some extra money for the development team. Or maybe Ubisoft will use the cash to open new offices that can start research on how to create another drm that kills my game. :D

I believe that its the same case as Serious Sam, they launched Episode 1 and 2 again in HD to play around with the new game engine "Serious Engine 3". There have been images of a possible Serious Sam 3 but it will probably depend if the gamers want a game of that genre since there isnt any game like that nowadays. Although Duke Nukem is coming, and both games are a bit similar in gameplay.

I never actually played the game myself, but I have heard good things about Beyond Good and Evil. Perhaps I should try the HD version when it comes out.

You really should. Its just a fun experience where you go in, enjoy the characters, and feel good at the end. I always came out of it going, "Hey, that was a genuinely enjoyable experience" after playing it.
Also, it would be nice for people to not look at me like I'm crazy when exclaiming, "Carlson and Peters!"
