It's a team whose work I love and a setting I really want explored.

But I'm sure as hell not hyping it. Not even gone out of my way to find any information. All I read nowadays is a couple of brief reviews, find it way more fun discovering these things myself.

I hate the hype-train. It causes nothing but disappointment.

Well I'm excited because Dark Souls is my favorite game. However, I am the type of person who goes out of my way to avoid trailers, gameplay demos and interviews about games because I want to go into games with as little hype as possible so that I can form a fair opinion
Whether or not I buy a game generally comes down not to how hyped I am due to the trailers, but instead what critics I trust(E.g. Yahtzee and Totalbiscuit) and friend recommendations.

Of course I'm not perfect, as I said I am excited for Bloodborne, since I like the developer, and I would be a liar if I said I wasn't excited for MGSV or whatever Platinum brings out next. But still I feel keeping hype to a minimum is always for the best.

Oh god no. From Software has yet to make a good game and Bloodborne is now going to be best game ever, yeah right. The combat is horrible in Dark Souls (and it was their 2nd try). I didn't even try Dark Souls 2 because of how bad the 1st (or 2nd) one was. They know very little about RPG mechanics and combat mechanics. When a shooter has better shield controls than your combat game, your game sucks. And, lastly, From's enemy AI is pedestrian as it gets. AI is one of the main things games need to improve on.
Was this intentional flame bait?
That's how I honestly feel about the game. I went in expecting a hard game with good combat and I get neither. I'll go into more detail down below.

Not that I like to proliferate the notion that Dark Souls players are elitist, but you're clearly not very good at the game if you think that, how long did you play it for exactly before writing it off as horrible? Five minutes? Dark Souls has VERY, VERY tight controls. You not being very good at it doesnt mean they know "very little about RPG mechanics and combat mechanics", it does mean you don't know anything about the game.

But hey, all those people who love it and it being a run away hit must mean nothing right?
I played and beat Dark Souls, you can check my trophies if you want (PSN: Phoenixmgs). I barely even died in the game because you can use the exact same strategy on pretty much every enemy. Playing as a Dex character, you can block almost every attack with a light shield, it doesn't make any sense. You can block the Knights' triple hit combo for example since you can lower your shield in-between swings and gain just about all the stamina you lost back. I did die a lot in the beginning because I thought as a Dex character, I'd have to depend on dodging instead of blocking, and I barely used my shield. Once I learned the game mechanics and such, the game is really easy.

The reason the controls suck is because of their dependence on the lock-on system (lock-on systems themselves are archaic). The fact that you can't backpedal and strafe with a shield up and not locked-on is why facing multiple enemies at once is hard. I bet you can't even name another made in like the last 10 years where your character will literally turn around if you press backwards with a shield up. Metal Gear Solid 4 has better shield controls (with a lock-on system as well) than Dark Souls. The bad controls make you play one vs one all game, and the game's enemy AI is so simplistic. You can literally strafe around the enemies for backstabs, you can shoot arrows into enemies and they won't even move.

Some of the RPG mechanics are things that should've never made it out of the conceptual stages let alone in the final game. There's a stat, Resistance, that does literally nothing. Could you imagine if a stat in DnD did nothing. The fact that fire magic requires no stat is broken (especially since PvP is part of the game). With both characters at the same level, a character with fire magic can just be better than a magic character (scorceries or miracles) because they can invest pretty much all their stats into melee combat and have strong magic. And Dark Souls isn't From's first go at this, those type of things have no excuse for being in the game. Dark Souls makes RPG mistake of just raising numbers and nothing else for the most part. You character is just better because your stats go up, not due to getting new abilities. Getting new abilities is the thing that disguises the fact that you can't fight higher level enemies just due to numbers alone even though it is. Getting new abilities/skills/feats/etc. makes you feel like your character is getting better whereas if my stats just go up, I don't feel like my character is actually getting better (just numbers going up); the game just feels very "skinner box-y" if my stats just go up.

And, I was good at the game. I went through all of Sen's Fortress without getting hit by a trap (without a walkthrough BTW). It took over half the game for there to be traps, I went in thinking the series is supposed to be hard as hell. I did the whole sewer dungeon (with the gaping dragon) without a single death. I did actually enjoy the game as I played it as I did like the level design and atmosphere; however, Dark Souls is one of those things that the more I think about it, the worse it gets. So, when I did finish the game, I'd probably score it 6-7/10 (5 is average for me), now I'd probably score it a 3-4/10 because I definitely feel it's below average. So, I'm not just some crappy player that didn't "get it" or some troll, I have several reasons for thinking From Software is a bad developer thus there's no way I can see their next game being "best game ever" until they actually make a good game.

That never makes any sense to me. How can you hate on a game if you actually enjoyed playing it? I mean, quite literally everything can be made a worthless experience if you overthink enough. Dark Souls is by no means a short game so you had hours and hours of enjoyment out of it and then when you look back on it you go like, yeah whatever the game sucked. Then why did you have a good time playing it in the first place?

If you don't like action-RPGs or couldn't get into Souls then yeah, I understand its not your cup of tea. But if you take the time to complete the game and actually enjoyed the experience, I find that hard to believe.

When Demon's Souls came out I never played anything like it before and was totally mesmerized by the game, not b/c it was perfect but b/c it drew me into its world unlike anything else. And now Miyazaki seems to catch lightning twice with Bloodborne. My most favorite style of game from my most favorite developer in my most favorite setting. Hence why I'm so excited. :p

Of course not. I was excited for DS2, and it really let me down. BB will be good/fun, but it won't be 'the best game ever'. I won't be surprised to be atleast a little disappointed by it. 25 years of gaming should have taught you this by now... Devs never really fulfill their promises, trailers never accurately portray a game, cinematics mean NOTHING, and 'famous' game makers can make crap just like they can make gems.

People are excited about the 'offensive' new combat style, but from looking at recent gameplay footage, it doesn't look that great. You can play an 'offensive' no-shield style in DS1 and 2 by using a two handed weapon.

Really, IMO, I think that Demons Souls was the original story/setting/idea, but Dark Souls had to be made to inch around copyright and such, but I don't know why BB exists. The dude seems to be 'starting over' continually with games. He should make a series, as long as he is interested in doing so, even if the sequels go into the double digits, he should have personally worked on DS2, and he should make new games when he is done with old ones. Instead, hes making new games that play a lot like his old ones, so its like a new candy wrapper over the same candy. *shrug* weird, but sure whatever, can do what he wants I guess. Being rich and famous will give you that ability...

In any case... enjoy your hype, but don't be too disappointed when the game comes out and it does NOT live up to your expectations.

Demons Souls was great but it was flawed
Dark Souls was great as a predecessor and as it's own thang, but it was flawed.
Dark Souls 2 was fine, but boy oh boy was it also shit... and flawed.

If anything Bloodborne has a chance at being the best in the series of Miyazaki's Wild Ride spawns, but will be flawed. And I only say this because 1. Miyazaki knows how to provide vision over simple pandering and 2. Guy's just a good director who most likely learned from the series' past faults, and is ready for a fresh start. I'm not insanely hyped, but do I have trust that this will be a quality product? You bet your transformable scythe loving ass. Keeping hype at the low is good in this case, because I want whatever the lore/the atmosphere for this game to surprise me like Demons did the first time. So keep the hype low gents, MGSV requires your attention too.

But best game ever? NOPE, NOT OUT YET, AND I DON'T SEE A "PER" OR A "SO" OR A "NA" OR A "4" IN THE TITLE "BLOODBORNE", SO NO.

It's like Demon's Souls? Made by From software? Sounds like it has a better shot in the worst game ever category. Demon's Souls was garbage. Also you should get off the hype train, you are just asking for disappointment.

I went in expecting for the game to be hard and have a top-notch combat system, I did not get either. That is literally what the game sells itself on. You can enjoy something and still rate it below average. I'm sure there's several movies everyone enjoys but realizes it's a below average movie, same thing with games. I was playing always expecting the game to finally "ramp up" but it never really did. It's not until Sen's Fortress where traps come into play. The game really disappointed me with its RPG and combat mechanics. A Dex character really doesn't play much different than a Strength character for example, you can block everything as both characters, one character just hits harder but slower. After playing Dark Souls, I really had no interest in playing Demon's Souls (which I can for free due to PS+) or playing Dark Souls 2 unless massive changes were made. Bloodborne could be awesome but I just have no confidence in From making a great game after playing Dark Souls.

If they'll manage to capture the atmosphere of gothic then probably, yeah. Gameplay gonna stay the same.

I'm really frustrated I'll never be able to play it, since affording a PS4 and using it just for Bloodborne is completely out of the question. So my hype balloon was never blown up to begin with. On a more related note, no, probably not.

No.

The best game ever made was Prehistoric Isle in 1930; the best anything else can hope for is second place.

No game is the best game ever, only personal best game ever. But goddamn I am pumped for Bloodborne.

I am actually willing to buy a PS4 to play it, albeit I'll wait until PS4s go down to $300 or lower.

But hell, I just want to see more of it.

As a big Dark Souls and Demon's Souls fan I'm very excited about this. While I haven't played it yet (I plan to eventually though), one big thing that disappointed me about Dark Souls 2 was all I saw of the enemy design. It just looked like a huge step down from the first two. This game however looks absolutely amazing, so consider me excited at least on that front.

I hope they try to make it a bigger departure from Dark and Demon's Souls than it looks like though. From the narration, it sounds like they have a lot of opportunity to make the world more populated. They mention something happening when night falls, so having the world populated enough to have a state of normalcy during the day could be cool and unique. It doesn't need to change everything, but as much as I loved them there's plenty of room to improve on Dark Souls. Here's hoping they take some of those opportunities

One example: Enough with the storytelling via item descriptions. Just shove it all into the world, that'd feel way more natural than these abstract item descriptions that you inexplicably know

I highly doubt it. That trailer does look pretty great and given the reputation of some of the people behind it, I'm sure the game will be at least good.

Best game ever? Well... it's not Mount and Blade: Warband so my answer would be no.

Well it depends. The combat and hit detection in the Souls game are still off imho. The enemies can be really cheap like auto-tracking and obnoxiously long flurries/combos. It would be nice if you had more control over how the weapons behave like having tighter swings and less delay with heavy weapons as your strength increases. These can be fixed in future games. I'm of the impression that the fighting in Bloodborne is going to be a bit faster than the DS games. More free-roaming monster AI would be interesting, the torch mobs with the dogs might be something like this from what I saw in the trailer. I'd also like to see more crowd control rather than having to kite individual monsters lest a whole pack go aggro and gang-up on you. I'm looking forward to the Gothic-horror/Chthuluesque beasties compared with the high fantasy ones of DS.
