I think it's more fun mutliplayer, but then again I just enjoy coop. I've never really played with people I don't know, so I can't comment on that, though I do have a good group of three friends who enjoy the game to play 4 player with. One time we tried to go through it in one LAN at a friends house, fun times (Side note, I have it for the 360).

I suppose it's well playable on your own but still, w/friends is way more fun. My friend still makes references to the one time I played with him.

I don't think there's a right way to play a game, and borderlands is no exception. I have to admit, although playing it alone isn't boring by any means, having a buddy back you up is much more entertaining. Also, you can plan strategies and compete, which is always fun.

At risk of sounding a cheap whore, if you play it on Xbox360 my GT is kevinzz. Feel free to add me

I played through it alone and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I can't remember grinding at one point in the game. I went places and killed what I had to kill to get past, but I do the same in Batman Arkham Asylum, Super Mario Bros. and basically every other game except Deus Ex where I have as little contact with the enemy as possible while sneaking past guards.
Well, fair enough then. I personally found that the only reason I was killing bad guys and doing quests was to get loot and experience, so I could kill more bad guys and get more quests. That's why I, and a few other people I know, consider playing the game to be grinding.

If it's different for you, that's fine.

While it's better in multiplayer, the singleplayer definitely works. I played through it the week my internet was down (I had just gotten it, so I couldn't wait) and I'm in Playthrough 2 with that character while our MP-characters only just got to the Trash Coast.

Cuz that's the thing, 2 to 4 people need a night off at the same time, but BLands is slightly addicting. What's a man gonna do, not play??

I'll admit that it's repetitive, but I wont say that everything repetitive is considered grinding. I don't kill enemies because I gain experience, I kill them because they're in my way. I have also killed several enemies that had the warning sign that says they're too high level for me to beat. They're just a lot harder. I think when it comes down to it we do agree we just have a different definition of grinding. Where my definition is killing enemies only for the sake of gaining level.

Okay, so i just noticed something: most people play borderlands with at least one other person. I myself just got borderlands, and i love the darn game, i even have a friend who i played it with, but for some reason my game bugged up and i ended up switching mission logs with him. so i started a new character and played by myself in single player, cause i'm not ruining another character because i'm playing online. so, people, is borderlands properly played alone or with at least one other person?
It's meant to be played multiplayer. Trust me on this.

When playing Solo, it's a pretty good FPSRGP. When playing with at least one friend (the more the better), then it's no longer about the treasure hunt. It's about the sheer non-stop anarchy that happens.

Trust me, you really ought to keep playing it in multiplayer. I don't know how you glitched like that, but honestly, if yuo play solo, you're missing out on the best part of the game.

Personally I've played most of the game by myself. Extra people can help you on certain parts and the game is a good deal quieter without other people. I found that the game had a great degree of challenge when you played by yourself.

No, we seem to have the same definition, I just mean to say that to me all that I was doing in that game was grinding. Luckily grinding is perfectly fine with me when I'm playing with friends.

When I was killing enemies and doing quests, I was just doing it for experience (and loot). I quickly stopped bothering to read the quest texts, and I really didn't give a damn about the "Vault" or whatever it was we were getting.

You say you killed the enemies because they were in your way, now I'm not actually sure exactly what you mean by that, but you definitely had some motive for killing them other than XP. I did not, and neither did my friends.

I can only say from experience it was way more fun that way, and I wish there were more games like it!

Play it however you want.

There is no right or wrong way to play a game it just depends on you.

I play it with a friend when we get chance but mainly solo. I don't like getting into games with random people so if none of my friends are around i'll just play alone.

Or play something different.

But all this right or wrong bollocks makes no sense. As long as you have fun thats all that matters regardless of what anyone says.

Everything attacking me I killed. Anything that didn't I decided to let live. Unless this enemy was either a quest objective or one marked too hard. I sure showed that village of "too strong" bandits who's the boss. I guess some of my reason for enjoying it is that I enjoy being the sniper just picking off enemy after enemy and see how many will die before they notice me and start running to get me.

The base game can be played single-plyer start to finish; the DLC DEMANDS co-op, especially Mad Moxxi and General Knoxx.

I think the magic number is 2-3 people. At 4 it gets wayyyy to easy. It was designed with multiple people in mind, so sayeth the game designers.

Iunno. I played through most of it on singleplayer for almost hours on end. But recently I started doing multiplayer and found it's pretty fun with a lot of people, but a bit too easy.
