Is Call of Duty ruining video games?

I don't think the Call of Duty Franchise is ruining video games. It?s a franchise that knows what it?s doing. While I?m not a follower or a fan to me the creators seem to put genuine effort into their creations, which I find commendable even if I do not feel the same way about the content.

There was a time when studios kept flooding the market with spunkgargleweewee to compete with CoD, but it seems that the industry has moved past that. At this point, it's harmless.

I dislike that stupid term, and I think Yahtzee's full of crap when he says that military shooters are "racist"(apparently he thinks anything showing non-white people in a negative light is "racist").

Whether you like the term or not isn't relevant. It's a term that allows people to easily refer to a certain type of shooters. I could say "military shooters", but that won't be as accurate because I'm not referring for games like the ARMA series.

I don't recall saying anything about racism. Call of Duty games are the video game equivalent of Michael Bay movies - some could interpret them as racist, but I doubt there is an actual intention to offend minorities. It's just harmless, dumb, fun.

I disagree on Dead Space Resident Evil, I personally like the later games in those series(I honestly don't like the early RE games, 4 was the first game I played, so for me the other 3 felt outdated to me).

Ehmmm..I actually really love Resident Evil 4(and Dead Space 2 for that matter). It isn't the action-oriented approach that killed these series but rather the implementation of certain features(co-op for example) and general dumbing down of elements that made the previous games great like tension and atmosphere in favor of dumb pew-pew specifically to appeal to the CoD-crowd. If you compare RE6 to RE4 nobody can argue RE6 isn't an uninspired fucking mess and what this 'philosophy' has done to the series.

CoD has not ruined anything.

Excessive risk aversion and derivative design philosophies have done some damage, though, but those derive from attitudes, not particular games.
