imo its better than red dead redemption. when red dead redemption focus more on open world, travelling, horse riding from point A to point B, boring cow hearding missions. this game focus on a great gameplay where you shoot the crap out of bandits.
Weird comparison. RDR and Gunslinger aren't even the same genre.
Come on now...since when has a pesky thing like logic ever stopped B-Cell.

I do remember enjoying Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Well, except for the stupid forced duels which got obnoxiously difficult and made no sense from a story standpoint half the time.
Yeah, Bound in Blood was brilliant IMO. It had a really great feel to it, and is vastly underated. Ray McCall is such a great character.
I thought bound in blood was mediocre game. i couldnot finish it. Gunslinger is only good COJ game.
plus Silas is much better character than both McCall brothers.

The first Call of Juarez was the best one. The others in the series were okay. Gunslinger is poor.

Westerns shouldn't be just about shooting stuff.

Red Dead Redemption and GUN are better. But Gunslinger is right up there in the top three. I must have played through it 10 times by now. The thing about westerns is that it's not just about guns and shooting. It's about the setting as a whole. And that's where open world games like RDR and GUN have a big advantage. Too bad that GUN was rushed back in the day. It was supposed to be a lot bigger and a lot better. But Activision wanted it to be an Xbox 360 launch title.
The PSP version is a bit bigger with a few new missions and better horse mechanics (the main character gets his own horse that he can call by whistling, just like RDR).

The first Call of Juarez was crap. Bad mechanics, bad graphics and who the thunk thought putting stealth missions in there was a good idea. Gunslinger is great, however.

I will say this as someone who is a little down on AAA in general and Ubisoft, EA and Activision more than most. I loathe Ubi's generic sandbox games/AssCreed nonsense. That said, I adored this game. CoJ: Gunslinger, I thought was absolutely brilliant. I would have even played a longer version, though the 6-10ish hours is still fine.

I think i particularly loved the Unreliable Narrator storytelling. As a framing device it worked so damn well. It delivered the story wonderfully and worked hand in hand with gameplay and the art style. I haven't seen something so good since Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The gunplay was great fun, I loved the level design, I loved that we got to visit all the Western mainstays...train, mine, saloon, town, wilderness. It had other cowboys, gunslingers, red indians, cards, whiskey, outlaws, lawmen, etc.

This game is a joy to a play. I thought it was a wonderful experience that I enjoyed more than I expected, had a great storytelling method that blended voice acting, art, gameplay and world building together. Not that long, hit a lot of high notes, want more of it!

You beat me to it but that is definitely my favourite western game ever made (that I have played obv) also Sunset riders was and is a darn fine western game can be a bit unforgiving by todays standards however since its an arcade game.

Like the Gatling, Gatling pistol which is a gatling pistol made of rotating gatling pistols.
That sounds awesomely impractical ... or maybe impractically awesome. You wouldn't happen to have an image of that lying around, would you?
No, I can't find one. I'd screencap it in game... but its not an easy weapon to acquire. Its a rare random drop from using a skill to steal a weapon from an enemy, and its only useable for the rest of the level and then goes away. I've so far only been able to find one. But from what I remember just take the standard Deadlands gatling pistol...

and imagine 9 of those barrels in a rotating gatling formation, basically firing 9 rounds for every squeeze of the trigger, and probably weighing 50-70 pounds or so.

I love the whole visual look and design of Gunslinger, I mean just look at the comic-book panel design of the story presentation. It's like someone took Max Payne and painted it all over using a large dose of Tarantiono's Django Unchained. But I have to say that the gameplay is nothing all that special, just a regular old-fashioned linear FPS. I'd have loved it if they went as balls-out crazy on that front as they did with the storytelling.

It's a very very very good ARCADE shooter set in a Western setting. But as a Western game itself, it is far too linear. It doesn't do anything else to make you feel like you're in the Wild Wild West. No lassos, no poker, no riding horses through the landscapes, none of the non-violent things that make a Western game feel like a Western.

As far as pure action is concerned, Gunslinger is the best. I also like how the collectibles give you facts on the people, places, and events that are mentioned throughout the story.

When it comes to making you feel like you're in the Wild West, though, I think Red Dead Redemption has it beat. Its gunplay may not hold a candle to Gunslinger's, but the huge world and all the additional activities it provides helps set the stage.

If we're talking straight up action, then it's one of the best.

For me, my favorite Western game will always be Sunset Riders

Also, some people seem to be forgetting classics such as Wild Guns and Lethal Enforcers II. Also, Red Steel 2 is a good Western game when you think about it.

You? You ARE wrong on all counts, since the original CoJ was a barely playable piece of crap, whereas Gunslinger was a barrel of fun. Thus, COJ1 = crap, Gunslinger = great.

If Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath counts as a Western, I'd put that at the top, but it's definitely in my top 3. It's definitely one of my favorite video game stories, the gameplay is good (although you get a little overpowered by the end of it), and the graphics are nice. That sort of visual style holds up very well.

I definitely pictured Roland as Silas Greaves when I read through The Dark Tower.
