Gun.Smoke for the original NES. No other game captures the feel of the old west quite like it.

But seriously, I'm an RDR guy. I was excited when GUN came out, but I thought it would be a lot bigger. It turned out that RDR was everything that I wanted GUN to be.

Not really. Pacing issues aside, I still think RDR is a better game set in the wild west (and the only Rockstar game I actually cared to finish). However, don't take this as a negative mark on it, Gunslinger is a really good game on its genre, it is only that its genre (a mission segmented FPS) is less impressive than the amount of detail Rockstar put on Redemption.

Westerns shouldn't be just about shooting stuff. The first Call of Juarez was crap. Bad mechanics, bad graphics and who the thunk thought putting stealth missions in there was a good idea. Gunslinger is great, however.
Nope. Wrong on all counts. Gunslinger is the crap one.
You? You ARE wrong on all counts, since the original CoJ was a barely playable piece of crap, whereas Gunslinger was a barrel of fun. Thus, COJ1 = crap, Gunslinger = great.
If it was unplayable I wouldn't have been able to play it (and finish it). I did both. Gunslinger however I quit and uninstalled after an hour. Barely playable is exactly what it was.

Well, going by your logic, if it was barely playable, I wouldn't have been able to beat it twice (and then beat the arcade mode and the duel mode). Gunslinger was simply brilliant. Whereas the original...

Seriously, who the fuck thought putting stealth in there was a good idea?

I dunno, who the fuck thought making Gunslinger 100% about shooting bullets into things a good idea?

An FPS 100% about shooting?
What a horrifying concept.

Looks like I have to hate Serious Sam, Painkiller and Doom now, since being all about shooting is apparently a BAD thing for a shooter.

Gunslinger's certainly one of the better ones, but as many others have said, GUN and Red Dead Redemption beat it soundly in my mind.

But all of them get beaten into the gound by Wild Guns.

Because Wild Guns is awesome.

I have never played a western shooter before. I did not realize that until now. Probably because western films are usually a load of old piss to me and I would imagine a game being only slightly more tolerable. I want to play Outlaws though I have not yet.

Here's a recommendation: go watch the western classics and think about how awful they would be if they were 100% Clint Eastwood shooting things.

"Go eat some apples and think how awful they would be if they would be oranges"
That's what you just said. Comparing two different mediums, seriously?

Tried to play COJ Gunslinger since it's in my Steam Portfolio but it bored me immediately. RDR much better in my opinion.

The type of medium isn't the issue, it's the lack of variation in any medium. The analogy should not be apples versus oranges, but eating 5 bowls of apple slices versus 5 bowls of fruit salad.

Yeah, only no. Shooters being all about shooting is how it should be. Shooters being about shitty physics puzzles or, in this case, about really shitty stealth is how not to do things.
