I am a RPG addict. I have to have character development. I put that and story above gameplay. I could now post examples where I praise some games I love but I'll pass (this time).

Character development is important to me. I mostly play war games and i like when my squad members have their own personalities. It helps draw me into the story better. EX: CoD Big Red One. I got attached to each of the members in my unit and when they died I became disheartened as I liked each and every one of them. Same thing with Brothers in Arms. I like knowing each of the characters so I can laugh, cry, and experience the trials and trbulations of war with them.
Only if the story is the main focus of the game, IE RPGs, but even then as long as the story is enjoyable. Character development helps but not really "needed".
