Is Deus Ex: Invisible War at all worth it?

I own Deus Ex: Invisible War mostly because it came bundled with the original Deus Ex on Steam. I've played the original and Human Revolution, and I loved both. That said, I've heard nothing but hatred for Invisible War. Given that I own it, is it worth my time?

If you own it, you might as well give it a shot and see if you like it.

Personally, I liked it better than Human Revolution.

It runs on a buggy engine that you'll likely need to mod to get running well on modern systems, but most of the 'hatred' for it I've seen comes in direct comparison to the first Deus Ex, because it's a more cut-down and streamlined addition to the series. It still got a lot of critical acclaim at the time.

If you already own it, you might as well try it out.

It's alright. Just don't go into it expecting something as good as the first game.

Also, it has universal ammo, and it makes the game infuriating at points. I'd invest in strength augments and get a decent melee weapon for when you inevitably run out of ammo.

It's difficult to follow up a legendary game, but they really fucked up bad, so bad that it drove Warren Spector (not Harvey Smith though) completely out of the line of games he was making, and eventually to Disney. Harvey Smith kept the torch burning with Blacksite: Area 51 and the excellent Dishonored.

Perhaps now that Spector is finally free from Disney he can make a great game again.

Same as what others just said, It is a good game on its own.

Its worst flaws come from the fact that it is a Deus Ex game, so the comparisons make it seem worse that what it actually is.

I don't know what to say here. It's alright, not spectacular. It had some interesting ideas, only some of which it really capitalised on. It was an XBox game first and foremost, and it shows in the shitty maps and horrendous UI. There are mods for it that can help somewhat that can improve graphics (not to modern standards of course) and bug fixes.

The story however is pretty good and the role playability is above average. If you own it, play it. So I guess there's my recommendation. It's good enough that it's worth playing, though not good enough for a 2nd time thru. It's not as good as either of the other titles in the series.

deus ex invisible war is a legend, the game does not actually exist so i assume you accidentally got malware in your steam library. i would strongly recommend you contact customer support to have it removed.

If you own it, then you may as well try it for yourself.

That said, I bought it for $2.50 or something in a steam sale because I figured I'd surely get $2.50 worth of enjoyment out of it.

I was wrong.

I just kind of found it boring to be honest.
I also disliked the MC.

I personally liked it okay. Of course, comparing it to Deus Ex makes it look like an attempt to throw together a sequel while pandering to the "cool kids" of the early 2000's. I mean, the tag line is literally "the new war on terror" with a dude on the front holding a pistol sideways with the douchiest hairstyle I've seen in a while. Due to this, I played a female character ('cause that's an option for a 2003 game; color me impressed).

Look at it this way. The first Deus Ex was a blockbuster movie that set the bar for years to come. Invisible War was the mediocre animated series on Kid's WB that only existed because it can point to the original and say, "See! We're that cool!" Some people will hate it, but some people will... well, not LOVE, but still find reason to like it. And yes, you can actually directly troll the Illuminati in this one. Hell, you have a chance to troll everyone if I remember right.

One final word. To further what someone said earlier, it was quite obviously made for the Xbox early in its run. The UI is pretty crap, and the omni-ammo will get you killed in a hurry if you try and use a sniper rifle or rocket launcher for very long.

But hey, you have it already, so give it a shot.

Deus Ex was a real solid rpg. Invisible War was more of an adventure game with light FPS elements. Human Revolution is a cover based shooter/adventure...

the fun of Invisible War was in choosing which objectives to complete (or not) and which mod selection to use (or not)... the story was pretty cool stuff... it was over the top and way more cyberpunk than the current gens version. Human revolution is more like a cop story with cyborgs, and there's hardly any conspiracy theory mentions at all- I miss that.

Also, IW had music by Kidneythieves.. oh yeah-

Long answer: No.
Compared to Deus Ex, it's a thermonuclear shitsplotion. On its own it's... mediocre at best. Just spend your time elsewhere. You're not really missing anything.
