Is Earthbound worth it?

100+ dollars just to be able to play through it? Probably not. But, if you can find it in good condition in the big cardboard box that comes with the strategy guide as a collector it is probably worth the investment.

Reminds me of when I dropped quite a sum to get a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga an extremely rare Sega Saturn game. The game is good yes, but paying that much just for the oppurtunity to play it probably wasn't. But it is a great collectors item to own and there is always the option of selling it later on.

Why the hell isn't this on virtual console?!

There was a series of legal issues surrounding the games soundtrack having a few loops that closely resemble songs by the Beatles and other popular musicians.

OT: Well, just remember, since the only way to play it is through used sales, none of that money goes to the developer. I would reccomend you buy a few knick knacks from the series online to balance your karma, then playing it through...different methods.
