To me, it seems like people just can't come up with a decent insult to save their lives. It's always "Oh you don't like (insert game) because you're a fag. Go suck my dick fagggggg." Obviously their grammar is worse but still!

Also, it always seems like it's the most uneducated people that call you a fag. By that I mean, they have terrible spelling and grammar and hardly seem to know the English language. (Yes, that might be a little hypocritical, as I'm sure there are numerous grammar mistakes in this. However my grammar is usually decent enough to piss them off.)

So Escapist users, tell me is being called a ****** or a gay equivalent, really the worst insult ever?

EDIT: By worst I meant, do they think it's the most effective and hurtful? To me, it's lost most of it's meaning mostly because it's overused.

Well I don't find it as annoying as the people who think they're witty by blending a random word with "fuck".

Nope.
I rather like bundles of sticks, y'know? They're pretty handy for making fires. Or making into furniture, if they're strong enough.

If by "worst" you mean "most painful to receive," then no, not really. If by "worst" you mean "most ineffective and impotent," then definitely!

The fact that we can freely reference the word "fag" on this forum without severe penalty is a good indicator of how insignificant it really is.

Nope. It doesn't matter what people say to me or what they call me, the insult is their own stupidity. How is being called a fag/gay/****/asshole supposed to make me feel bad? Are people really that stupid? The funny thing is, since I get so angry about them being stupid, they think it works.

The rage!

The worst insult on the internet is censorship.

That's actually an interesting question. Out of everything that someone can be called as an insult, it's really quite telling that the most commonly used insult (and one that some people seem to take as being the worst thing they could possibly be called) is just a term for being homosexual. Not that I think calling someone a "fag" is a good thing, but considering what is actually meant by it, it's not nearly as bad as something an even semi creative person could come up with.

I guess it's just s sign of the uber masculine douchebag culture that seems to exist these days as sort of an extension of the sports jock culture that used to be more prominent. The worst insult to someone of that mindset really is that they are somehow not the super woman conquering idealized masculine templates they want to be/think they are.

What about the French Horn? Though I'm an Orch-Dork, my dad plays brass/reed instruments, so I have some insight into these things. I really do like the french horn.
I actually never played any of those brass instruments. But, I do prefer the sound of trumpet over a French horn.... and if anyone disagrees with me you're a fag :D

As a bisexual person, I find it much more unnerving that "gay" has become a universal insult in our culture, I've heard some people I know for a fact are in no way homophobic do the exact same thing. Hell, I once thought I was about to have a heart attack when I heard on of my actually gay friends call something "gay" in a derogatory way (however I think he might have been joking). The point is, people do this without even thinking about it anymore, and frankly it bothers me.

I'm guilty of saying "that was gay" and making gay jokes etc. However, I feel as long as there's no actual hate behind it. Also, I seem to make quite a few of the gay jokes about myself, so I don't really feel that they're all *that* bad.
