It's hate it or love it. I love it, but won't recommend it. The battle system is a lot of fun, but can get tedious. And yeah, it only gets going 20 hours in.

Different strokes for different folks.

It's not for everyone. It's certainly not for me.

But hey, a lot of people obviously loved it. You might too!

No. It isn't a very good game. The story isn't very good either and, the voice acting is terrible. Wait until one of your friends gets the inevitable International version and borrow it. I wouldn't recommend renting it either because despite being linear, it is an incredibly long grind.

I personally absolutely hated it and would reccommend saving yourself the 60 dollar wallet-hurt.

I'd say rent it. Unfortunately it's one of those games that you either love or hate, no one can really tell you whether you'd like it or not other than yourself. I really enjoyed it, found it less grindy than it's predecessors infact, probably because the combat is one of the better in the series. I never had troubles with mobs lasting more than 5mins, 10 if its a boss, either.

It's a top two FF for me. I did minimal grinding.
The story is interesting. There's actual character development. The combat system was grand.
I actually enjoyed the linear nature. I'd rather get to the point and keep the story going than wander around for three times as long only to end up in the same place anyway.

I am a huge Final Fantasy fan, I have played all of them, some multiple times. I ran out of steam on this one. I play it a little bit every now and then but I find the combat so dull, it's flashy but when you are plodding along fighting the same things over and over it gets a bit much.

I just finished it this morning.
It's quite good though it depends on how patient you are, it's incredibly frustrating.

It's a love or hate thing, but if you don't like games that feel like grinding then you probably won't like it. There's no actual grinding, just a lot of people find it repetitive.

It's linear till about 20 hours in. When you get to Pulse the game opens up, but then I found I lacked a real purpose once I got there and lost interest.

I found my play-through was a very enjoyable 60 hours and that the game, while not the best FF ever, which I award to FF X, it is very good. And stunningly pretty.

Other peoples complaints are another man's positives. I for one liked the slow burning story which I think was good, the linearity of it, the battle system was good and a nice change making the battles faster and more exciting and the voice acting was good, except from Vanille for about the first 5 hours and in battle as she squeaks a bloody lot and during the first 5 hours, her accent goes from Aussie and into accents I've never heard of. The VO actor gets it right eventually but many people probably wouldn't be able to stand it. I nearly didn't but I persevered and was happy to hear her stick with the same accent and the characters are likeable, Hope and Sazh are more so due to plot twists which I won't mention here for spoiler reasons .

But the things I liked may well be another persons dislike. Looking back over this thread, this is obvious. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Just rent/borrow it to find out.
