I haven't seen any Fox levels of stupidity in my countries news papers.
then again we have laws that make it mandatory for news reporters to confirm their stories.(with the exception of gossip magazines)

Stupidity is generally a very vocal minority the world over, but unfortunately, it is a little louder in the US than most countries.
Personally, I think the reason why they're so loud while the rational, smart people are quiet is because the smart people are busy doing stuff that smart people do.

All news outlets have a bias and will ignore, misrepresent, or simply not research the facts that do not agree with their bias, even this very site, which is quite prone to all of the above when it comes to psychological studies regarding video games and anyone who thinks that changes should be made to games that isn't part of the gaming community (i.e. the article about the Red Cross that was up recently). The best thing you can do is find a news source who's bias you know very well and learn to read through the lines. I find this particularly easy to do with Bill O'Reilly, who seems to be a person who genuinely believes the things he says even if he is an arrogant jerk much of the time (Jon Stewart seems to think the same of O'Reilly even though they both severely disagree on a number of issues. It is so awesome when they go on each other's shows. Hilarity ensues.).

No, it's just their own special brand.
What Fox does has that specific air of Moral Panic and OMG-Socialism that you don't really find in Europe. The line between reporting and opinion pieces may be blurred a little more often, too. Also, there just seems to be more of it... but then there's more of the alternatives, too, in terms of television, or entire channels, purporting to be News.

Well...there's lots of stupid news all over.

On the other hand, Fox News seems to be particularly dreadful. The US does have quite a number of major news sources, though, it's not surprising that one of them really, really is terrible.

On this planet. Not in this planet.

People are dumb everywhere. in australia we've got both today tonight and a current afairs. They are each on seperate commercial channels and are pretty bloody stupid. They don't quite have the guts to do anything as outrageous as fox but I'm not sure that makes them any better. as it is though, I actually like that they exist because it became one of the main parts of a particular TV show to just take the piss out of them, which is completely hilarious.

ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC. Are all guilty of the exact same things fox is guilty of, but receive none of the scrutiny.

And I have no idea what other news channels there are in other parts of the world, and don't care, but I doubt they are any better.
There are two things you have to understand about fox news.

1. They are full of crap.

2. They have a conservative bias.

There are two things you have to understand about MSNBC

1. They are full of crap.

2. They have a liberal bias.

That should help you understand why the media, television, and young people on the net (all groups which are predominantly liberal) bash FOX more than MSNBC.

Oh, there's fools everywhere... having taken a few trips into a variety of countries and keeping upon the news (or picking up the occasional online broadcasts from overseas), I can assure you that such depths of self-deluding, self-aggrandizing, opposition-demonizing behavior is by no means exclusive to the American market.

Fox News, however, does happen to be quite a bit louder and better funded than most media peers like it. I have yet to turn up a Japanese news outlet, for instance, that puts such a budget into being so blithely dense--if someone has turned up something from, say, the Asashi Shimbun that was both well funded and bluntly biased, please share.

There's a lot more competition from other news broadcasters in America then there is in most other countries, though I can't speak for all of them.

This is probably why they feel they have to outshout one another for ratings.

Well, certain individuals stirred up substantial rioting in the middle east over some cartoons published in a danish newspaper three years earlier. At the end of the day 100 people were dead.

The thing is, you seek out news you want to hear, and good news outlets print and say the things their audience wants to read and hear.

MSNBC decided at some point to become the left-wing version of FOX, but this has been unable to halt or reverse their prolonged slide in the ratings.

I don't particularly know that Fox News is dumb, just manipulative.

Who knows; perhaps both.

In the UK we have some pretty awful news too. I don't think it influences people as much as Fox news does, from what I've heard anyway, but it's still fairly prominent. But, somehow unsurprisingly, a lot of the stupid news we have over here is owned by Rupert Murdoch.
