Actually...there was a reason for me to include a statement like that. Namely, the assumption that was made - that not seeing today's gaming scene as "best it has ever been" is just nostaliga talking - is an incorrect assumpion.
If you don't see that as a reason, well, I can't do much about that, can I.
Let me guess this straight. It was all an assumption on your part? "Passive-aggressive people on the internet like to argue this way, so I'll just assume this one is doing it too."
Well, I suppose that clears up a few things. But just for further reference, I don't really like it if someone assumes that I'm implying something that I'm not. Please stop doing that.
So let me sum up my post.
1) I don't like it when preferring previous generations of gaming gets handwaved with "Eh, nostalgia"
2) I don't think the gaming scene at this point is "the best it's ever been" (and half of my post is why I don't think so)
3) Yes, it's my opinion and not a universal truth. Never said otherwise, so I don't see why you're getting on my case or what you're trying to accomplish here.

I'm fine with you feeling that way. I'm not fine with you attacking the attitude another person holds because you don't agree with them. Just because you don't feel gaming is "the best it's ever been" doesn't mean hazabaza is wrong for feeling that way. You cannot factually prove him wrong (just as he cannot factually prove himself right), so your accusation itself is a fallacy.

No, to say gaming is dead is really silly hyperbole. Games are still being made and are doing fine financially as an industry. Therefore they are still alive. There's more discussion about the issues in video games now because video games are far more mainstream than they used to be. That's all.
True, but because of its growth I think the developers are in such a rush to release a title now they are willing to let it pass without making sure there are no major glitches or bugs. Or, it could probably be because the development team is understaffed. Either way, I just want the industries to make sure a game is at least 95% glitch free before sending it out.I don't care how many years it takes for it to come out so long as they have worked out every detail before its release.Scrustle said:

I've been a PC gamer for since HL1 and if you asked me 3 years ago if I thought gaming was dead I would have said yes.
Then I stopped feeling sorry for myself and started looking elsewhere other than PC AAAs. I got into retrogaming, emulation, arcade gaming, indies, doujin and freeware. Then last year I bought a x360 and started enjoying all great exclusives, the Japanese action games and XBLA games.
I will say that niche AAAs and B games have been really suffering on consoles this past gen, with many Japanese games moving to handhelds, however imo it's up to the consumer to do their homework and support their favorite developers as there ARE still good games been made.

Nah gamings not dead that being said for me personally I am going through a winding down phase where I dont really play many games as I would rather do other things, its happened a few times before. Then usually what happens is a few games come along and I play them to death, I am expecting Persona 4 Arena and DOA 5 to do that this time but we will see.

It is if you focus on games you don't like, that's what people seem to do round here, I don't know why people are obsessed with complaining about AAA games when they can just fucking ignore them.
With the amount of games that they release each year, there is a HUGE chance of there being a game in that you will just plain love and a huge chance that there will be an objectively better spiritual successor to a game you used to love. You're just not looking hard enough if you think gaming is dying, because it isn't. Maybe all of the wrong games are getting popular in your eyes, but that's not hampering all of the other games that you could enjoy.
All of these threads could by summarized by saying "I don't like AAA games", which is fine, but we really don't need to hear more of the same.

I've certainly stopped buying a lot of newer games because of the influx of DLC milking and DRM, but it's not dead to me and never will be. There are still some devs that care about their customers and when/if they die I'll always have older games to play.
Gaming is so dead to me I bought Alan Wake in the steam summer sale and played three hours of it this morning! It's corpse has disintegrated it's so dead.
Gaming is ok, sure there are some cancerous growths that could pose a problem but it's still chugging along.
