what do you say to the case where a lvl 39 (paladin back in vanilla) is killed accross desolace again and again end to end by a 60 even when someone came tto help a 59, so i could rez and run past, only to have him turn away from the attacking 59 kill me then kill the 59, is this not harassment? yes it was a pvp server, but there are limits to what is pvp and what is harrassment

I don't play many MMOs but when I do, fuck those guys who gank. Fuck those guys. I play PvE but still get dragged into PvPs somehow. Fuck it, I don't enjoy it.

However, I think if you go into a PvP server on purpose, fuck you, too. You're gonna see a bunch of assholes and you knew that going in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there groups who sort of act like vigilantes and gank the gankers if they hear they're going too far? I know Dark Souls has.

I get the attraction of ganking but I think it's best to stick to friends. Why gank strangers? That's just a dick thing to do.

hunting them specifically because they're girls? weird.
Killing them because they're silly enough to go into a contested area in a PvP server without a group? Perfectly justified.

Yeah gank the shit out of them until they leave!!

I'm kidding.

Getting ganked sucks but if you play on a PvP server it's to be expected.

I got the shit ganked out of me while levelling up and it made me rage super hard. But I played feral druid so to make up for it I just killed any horde at my level that I could see.

I do take pride in never having ganked low levels when I'm at level cap. Instead I wait for low levels on my own faction to start getting ganked. I ask for an invite, and BOOM I go kill the level capped scrubs that can't play PvP properly so they have to kill lower levels. White Knight you might say? Not really, I just don't find killing low levels particularly fun.

The fact that we even have to talk about this is fucking backwards.

How about we just say, women should be equal to men in every way except that which is biologically and scientifically proven to cause differences, and just shut the fuck up?

If they fail to ward, it's their own fault. Assassins are supposed to go after the squishy dps. BURN THE NOOBS!

Just some person, inspiring trolling against less-than-favorable female players, that make money by phishing children with their body.
This isn't new. Ganking or just griefing like that, has been happening since forever. And guess what! Most of the time.....to guys!

The whole thing is like watching a presidential debate. We know all the contestants are full of shit. But it can be fun, watching them deliver backstabs or just throwing dirt.

i thought the guy in the video was really funny

not killing girl gamers is more sexist than killing them, imo

Didn't know the word 'ganking'. Is this another of those things where somebody misspelled 'ganging' and everybody else lol'd so it stuck, like 'pwn' instead of 'own'?

OP: It's asshole-ish and a bit creepy but what're you gonna do, this has been happening for as long as people have been playing against each other.

If this is true, I probably should have done my reading. This situation changes entirely if it's just someone being targeted who happens to be a woman, not because it's a woman. That said, everything above still applies under the assumption that this is not the case as in the OP's post.
No, it's not the case. He mentions a specific individual right at the end of the video. The rest of it is just him extolling on the many failings of girl gamers as an aggregate, how they seek to entrap lonely nerds and bilk them out of money and goods, and the many in-game places you can look for them in order to harass them (naturally engaged in silly fluff activities, because as he repeatedly mentions playing the game normally is beyond them).

There are two lines of defense that will be offered up for this video...

1. He's specifically targeting the loathed and feared ATTENTION WHORE, a label we all know applies equally to men and women and yet by some cosmic coincidence is applied almost universally to women by men. One might question whether or not the best method of mitigating ATTENTION WHORING would just be to cease to pay attention to them, but whatever. One might also question whether or not people with YouTube Channels creating content for public consumption should be pointing the finger at others and calling them attention whores, but who am I to judge? I'm writing a post on an internet forum. Let (s)he who is without sin cast the first stone.

2. He's made a cunning satire, in the mold of rage-bait ruses like MAVAV or Bonzai Kittens. I acknowledge this is possible, but suspect it is not the case. There's no wink to the audience at any point. This COULD mean he's just more committed to the satire than most, but I'm going to have to go with Occam's Razor and conclude the most likely scenario is he's simply a gynophobic douche canoe.

It seems to me that the guy is targeting girls who, in his mind, are using sexuality to get more attention/views/donations rather than targeting girl gamers in general. I get that he is pissed off that it's a thing in streaming, but he is taking it a bit too far. There is a difference in making a point and just being an asshole.

I might be wrong, but most of the blogs that are writing about this guy seem to think he's just a sexist asshole who only targets girls. He would probably also target men who use the same tactic as some of these girls, but there just aren't a lot of them around. At least when compared to the amount of girls doing this.

All in all, he just seems like a pissed of gamer who is taking his crusade a bit too far. I just wished people would put their attention to people worse than a guy who kills a character multiple times in a game (which probably isn't against the rules of most games in the first place). There are worse guys out there who actually ruin people's lives rather than just being an ass.

#1: How do you distinguish gamer girls by avatar? I know a LOT of guys who play WoW as females (down to voice alterations in vent).
#2: Addendum to #1 - You would have to have out of game knowledge that you're ganking a girl 100%.
#3: Ganking for whatever reason, despite being an asshole is not frowned upon on WoW. If you're on a PvP server or are flagged PvP and get jumped, thats the spirit of the game. Blizz does not take action on ganking, only when someone is actively cheating/botting/etc. Two ways around it, unflag yourself or don't play on a PvP realm. That goes for anyone who doesn't like being griefed/ganked. Its not a "no girls allowed" club, its the "pvp or die" club.
#4: Bacon is really awesome.

Seriously, its a non-issue. There's always going to be an asshole griefer out there somewhere that just can't live without causing serious conflict or just being a general ass both in game, vent and general/trade chat.

That's terrible. I didn't read the Kotaku article because... You know. Kotaku. But this is terrible. There are so many things wrong with the statement I just can not call this journalism, not even by trashy tabloid standards.

That would be because it's not.

Not that Kotaku doesn't suck bad enough all on it's own, but seriously. Think critically when you see crazy bullshit on the internet, don't just automatically believe it.

Probably; I first heard it in 90's drug/rap culture stuff (uggh) where it meant to rip-off - drug deals, in particular. It's since been picked up by some television shows (I'm looking at you , Supernatural) to mean killing and some games. It's pretty popular in Eve Online, though I haven't really heard it in other games. You'd have to check the etymology of the word to see where it's really from. I'm guessing it's either related to 'gang' or from a pretty old word.

That. As if the overly dramatic title was bad enough, we have the broad, inaccurate and sexist definition of rape to get me really offensive. Somebody should tell the write of the guy who was tied up and raped for days on end by a woman who was feeding him Viagra.

Uggh, that awful. Thanks for confirming, and I love the term 'gynophobic'. It comes out as incorrect by my translator, but it's brilliant all the same. Never heard it before.

Here's a link [http://kotaku.com/5914348/three-words-i-said-to-the-man-i-defeated-in-gears-of-war-that-ill-never-say-again] to the article that the photoshop was made from, for whatever that is worth.

On topic: players will always find a reason to kill other players. Trying to claim that some reasons are worse than others is a level of "thought police" that bothers me every time, so I think I'll just stick to co-op games. ;)

Three guesses as to whether that was a real article or not.

As I stated three posts up, /v/ does not like Patricia Hernandez.

As an EVE online player all i can do is tell that guy congratz for creating content? Ok, his motivations may be very dodgy but ganking is part of peeveepee. And i also wonder if the article isn't a bit pointless. I mean I never heard of gankers who gank only women. Neither in EVE nor in WoW back when i played it. So it seems to be a very rare occurrence. And unfortunately you'll always have morons like that. You probably also have morons who gank specifically people they know are muslims, black, gay, whatever.

Yeah, I went back and read the article after posting. I had a feeling it was too much, even for Kotaku. So it was reddit being shitty, instead.

Wait, is that "think critically" thing aimed at me or Kotaku?

Clearly it's aimed at anyone accepting something as dubious as a parody photoshop at face value. Since that is clearly not you in this circumstance, you can confidently sit back in the knowledge it applies to random yokels who wander through, look at that picture, and lose their fucking minds.

I can guarantee you there will be more than a few.
