This whole Save/Kill Carmine thing is making me think that. Buying the avatar shirts strikes me as being a cheap cash grab, and a way to create buzz for a game that otherwise wouldn't get enough. You wouldn't expect that for a franchise that has its own momentum to carry it through to the top of sales charts.

Gears gets buzz regardless. Everyones gona buy it with or without cheap hype. It's the best exclusive on the xbox imo.

It's like many brand name clothing lines, people pay to get a shirt with your logo, act as walking billboards, then their friends get interested, buy the shirts. I never understood why people pay extra money for a plain old t-shirt just because it's got some logo on it. Also, it gets those people involved. They then have a invested interest in the game so it helps sell more copies.

They officially jumped the shark when they introduced the Flood into the series. Serious the new enemies are the Flood from Halo.

Yep. Well done 'exclusives' have a way of garnering the targeted fanbase. It comes off more of a cheap ploy when other franchises include leading characters of these popular games.

Such as Marcus and Dom being in Lost Planet 2. Or the Halo Spartan in Dead or Alive, Link in Soul Calibur 2, etc.

I thought Gears jumped the shark halfway through the first game. I feel foolish for thinking the second would be good.

Strangely enough, I do think the whole Carmine thing is rather creative, even if it is a cash grab.

All the proceeds from the avatar shirts are going to charity...

But, being a huge fan of gears 1, it hurts me a little to say that I think the series jumped the shark when they introduced the lambent in Gears 2. The Multiplayer only reinforced my negative opinion of the game.

The two shirts will be available starting July 29th. All proceeds from these shirts will be going directly to the Child's Play Charity."
I would say no.

[Edit] I would say I was ninja-ed, but I was to only one to post a source. So suck it.

As others have said it all goes to charity.
The avatar shirts are also 80 Microsoft fun monies apiece, hardly big money compared to the other nonsense they put up.

Ah, I stand corrected. Then, more power to them.

Might have to Save Carmine.

I bought it more to support Child's Play, which is the beneficiary of all the proceeds. Calling it a cash grab in light of that, is just silly. Its a win win ... win. I get to support a charity that I like, the game gets some free publicity, and the charity gets the better part of my money.

Please try to justify this with evidence. Just, please.

The Lambent are nothing like the Flood.

Don't things have to be good before they "jump the shark?" har har har

But seriously, I think Gears is whack so this is just a continuation of its whackness

They're jumping the shark because they're pulling a marketing ploy with buyable items? Considering pretty much everything ever has done that, I'm not sure of the validity of that idea...

hype for the game + money for charity. Seems like a good idea to me.

Only problem is I don't enjoy the Gears series, so they should do this with other games as well.

Finally someone pointed this out. Unfortunately, people still haven't really noticed. So here goes.*ahem*

[HEADING=1]ALL THE MONEY FROM PEOPLE BUYING AVATAR SHIRTS GOES TO CHARITY. IT'S NOT A CASH GRAB.[/HEADING]
