I thought Gears jumped the shark halfway through the first game. I feel foolish for thinking the second would be good.

Strangely enough, I do think the whole Carmine thing is rather creative, even if it is a cash grab.

Seeing as how all the proceeds go to charity, I wouldn't necessarily call it a "cash grab".
this.

its a creative idea to get people involved and for a good cause, i think its a great and if i had cash i'd buy a shirt so if i pick up some cash soon before it ends hopefully i can...otherwise this is smart and awesome i think, i wish more companies would try stuff like this involved in advertisement.

but then again..we will know whats gonna happen to carmine at the end of the charity..so kinda a letdown to play the game constantly waiting for w/e we decide for it to happen..

That's cool that it's a reasonable price and going to charity at least

They officially jumped the shark when they introduced the Flood into the series. Serious the new enemies are the Flood from Halo.
Please try to justify this with evidence. Just, please.

The Lambent are nothing like the Flood.
Lambent = Radioactive explosive Locust
Flood = Zombie-Broccoli left out in the sun for too long

The lambent wretches were annoying in the first game, but they at least have the cool factor going on. Plus, the flood always show up to have entire levels built around their annoying BS in all three Halos.

A marketing tactic is hardly what would make a franchise jump the shark. Not to mention this isn't the first and certainly won't be the last franchise to use a fan vote for story content.

Not to mention thats hardly marketing in the first place, if anything this is a money grab. Gears hardly needs a hype boost and any franchise that does don't leave anything in fan control that would only ever work if you have a huge base to actually gain something from.

Would you put money down to influence the story in a brand new IP, like say Haze for example?

Well if you're wondering if the franchise is selling out, I'd say I'm surprised you didn't see Marcus Fenix branded with logos like a Nascar driver all over his power armor in the first game...=/

So basically:

Flood = Infectious aliens that consume the biomass of other species to survive
Lambent = Locust that go boom after death

As I said, there is a clear lack of similarities.

This whole Save/Kill Carmine thing is making me think that. Buying the avatar shirts strikes me as being a cheap cash grab, and a way to create buzz for a game that otherwise wouldn't get enough. You wouldn't expect that for a franchise that has its own momentum to carry it through to the top of sales charts.
Cheap cash grab? They're giving the money from the avatar shirt sales to Child's Play. Hardly a cheap cash grab.

EDIT: Quoted for the emphasis.

I don't know what your talking about and I don't care... Gears Of War has always been very forgettable in my opinion...

Of course I bought the shirt.
I'm going to get the game, and I want Carmine to die. Why? Because if 3 of the 4 brothers die, then Tom Hanks will have to be hired to save the 4th brother. Just think how many more bullets he could take before he dies unnecessarily when it's in Gears of War.

Oh, and it's for Child's Play, so I don't see how it's a cash-grab

Can the series *really* jump the shark? You already have an army of bodybuilders fighting a war using chainsaws against insects with guns (who are also body builders) on a planet that is more or less ancient greece with skyscrapers after a decades long war over unobtanium. Marcus Fenix could shoot lasers from his eyes and it would be believable within the fiction the games have presented. To jump the shark, I have to assume they would have had to be somewhere in the vicinity of the water in the first place and that game started out deep in the desert and just started digging.

Well, not for the Carmine thing. They created a cliche by killing Carmine II in 2. So now what? Continue it like a catch phrase? Do the anti cliche cliche? This is one of the few good ideas Epic has had about Gears in my view.

Only way to do better would be if Cole died instead.

I think it's okay to do something like this if it brings the community together and gives your game well needed attention. Plus, it seems to be for Charity so there's that going for it too.

Whatever, I don't really have a problem with this.

Exactly (I was agreeing with you), they're most certainly not the same type of creatures. I was just playing Resistance today and the whole "Conversion" deal with the Chimera is closer to the Flood than the cockroach/light bulb hybrids.

I only like the lambent more than flood because I had to bother with less of them than the flood in halo. Grunts are just so much more fun to massacre. >:D

A cash grab, some of the profit is going to charity. Not all gaming companies are evil you know. I'm looking at you EA!

How could "Gears Of War" jump the shark?

The number one thing would be if the game stopped being a cover-based shooter. Gears was (I believe) one of the first shooters to make cover an integral part of gameplay. Remove that element, and it becomes a generic shooter.

Cheap cash grab? Do your research. Proceeds are going to Childs Play. I don't support the avatar clothing marketplace, but I'll be buying one of the t-shirts because it's not a cheap cash grab. I just need to decide which one to get...
