Is Gravity Falls worth buying?

Obviously I'm not talking about piracy.

I'm making this thread because I watch a lot of animation. I like anime, I like American animation, I like Russian animation. I'm pretty open minded. I don't care whether it's Japanese or American or whatever.

And Gravity Falls has been another one of those hyped pieces of animated in recent year that everyone is talking about.

But here's the problem, I don't like the majority of television in my country enough to pay for cable. I don't have cable at all. I have internet, I don't both with cable television. The rare show that would be on TV that I care about I just outright buy or something wherever on the internet it is. I am not a television person.

Amazon instant video has the first season available for sale. And if there's a better distribution that has it, I'll go with that. I prefer DRM free and and HD downloads. As in, a DRM free 1080p direct download.

So should I get it? Is it really as good as people say? And what Digital Distribution platform do you recommend getting it from?

It's a good cartoon. How much you're willing to pay for it depends on how much you usually pay for stuff like that -- I've never bought a cartoon through digital distribution, and the few season boxed sets I own are from anime and live action stuff, so I really have no idea what they're charging, let alone what it's worth. In other words, it's definitely a good show, I just have no frame of reference for what one should pay for online access to a cartoon. If you routinely buy cartoons this way, go for it. It's at least as good as anything else that's likely to be available. If it's an unusual and/or big purchase for you, I'd wait around and see if someone who is either a bigger fan (I've only seen a few episodes) or who has more experience with buying cartoons from iTunes and such comes along.

Honestly, I think it's even better than My Little Pony in terms of overall quality. In fact, it's one of the best animated shows currently on TV.

If you're going to buy episodes of the series, buy the first four episodes first to see if you like it.

Gravity Falls is my favorite currently airing show. The team that makes it puts a lot of effort into all of the animation and scenery, there are quite a few clever references strewn throughout, and there's an absolutely massive amount of theory and conspiracy floating about. Add all that to the fact that it showcases a pair of siblings who actually care about one another, some of the characters are absolutely hilarious, and the show has a stupendously engrossing story, and it all comes out to be worth every penny you would spend on it.

I'd recommend watching as much as you can for free first, though, just to make sure you'll like it. It'd suck to spend money on something you didn't enjoy.

Yes, very much so. It's one of the best shows on TV right now, and definitely the best cartoon.

It does have its own unique quirk about it that some people don't seem to like for some reason (I always assume these people are part of a secret cult whose goal is to destroy all happiness and fun in the world), so I'd suggest watching it for free in some completely legit, non-piracy way before spending money on it.

Well I like My Little Pony, so that's a good sign.

I decided to go ahead and buy season one on Amazon. I hope things are nice.

There are probably better digital distribution platforms to buy it. Oh well.

How much is it on Amazon? (I from the UK so I doubt us Brit fans can get it just yet.)

Either way I say yes to buying it (in my view it is worth buying cartoons that are excellent which Gravity Falls is one of them).

No more posts yet, I guess I killed the thread off by going ahead and buying it.

Well I'm on episode 10, and here's my opinion so far.

There's some things I don't like about it. Such as one certain aspect of the character design. I've never particularly liked the style of character design that some American animators engage occasional where they make the eyes these two big eyeballs. In fact that's one thing I always disliked about the Simpsons as a kid. Aesthetically I don't like the "two big eyeballs" design. And Gravity Falls has that which I'm not too keen on. The big eyeballs tiny irises aesthetic honestly kinda weirds me out. As well some designs in general just don't appeal to me.

On the other hand, it is pretty amusingly written. And Mabel is adorable. I'm serious, Mabel and her randomness make this show so great. Mabel and Waddles. Together it's a cuteness overload.

Mabel is amazing. Literally everything that comes out of her mouth is amazing. Or does.

If you like MLP, then it'll probably be worth it. I say try an episode out, and then go through with it.

IMO: Gravity Falls is the best children's cartoon currently on television. As in, IT IS ACTUALLY FUNNY... It worries more about making the joke work than ensuring that the bad guy gets blowed up all nice and pretty like...... It is like Rugrats or AH! Real Monsters, in that the animation is not top notch, but it is good enough, AND you will laugh out loud, I can't remember the last kids cartoon I did that with before GF.
