Is Halloween a dumb, stupid, useless excuse of a 'Holiday'?

Halloween owns. Free candy, people getting trashed, awesome/slutty costumes... if Halloween had presents it'd be the best holiday of the year, bar none. Also, its contemporary form is free of any religious connotation that still hangs around the other major holidays (unless your a Bible-thumping uber-conservative, in which case Halloween is the night that Satan comes to corrupt your children's souls with Jolly Ranchers)

It's an American Holiday, what do you expect?

You guys fail at history. Halloween in honouring a great British man by the name of Guy Fawkes (I believe) He was the one who was arrested and hanged at the beginning of V for Vendetta. If you don't understand that, but still critise, you suck. Dressing up in custumes is actually what they did in the movie by wearing those guy masks. You all fail at history. So dress up ask for candy!

Apparently less people than usual trick-or-treated in Calgary this year. Maybe there just aren't many kids because of generational-economic realities, but I'm blaming on you people who don't like Halloween! You probably don't like Christmas either! Suck my balls all of you, it's teh best thing that will ever happen to you boring lifeless people!

*edit*
Here's a link to the real story of Halloween.

It was originally founded on the basis of you going to your dead loved ones and praying.

Then kids screwed it up.
That would be the day after Halloween.
that it is.

its fucking fun, but life crushes fun as you get older.

You could have said he was called Grey Fox and wasna ninja and still not be more wrong.

You should learn your history.
EDIT: AND literature.

No, you fucking fail at history.

Guy Fawkes Night is the 5th of November.

Remember, remember, the fifth of November.
Gunpowder, treason, and plot.
I see no reason, why gunpowder treason,
should ever be forgot.

Then perhaps You could float a few pieces of paper down form you're Ivory tower and tell a mere peasant like me what actually happened? Or just say I'm wrong, that works too.

My Ivory tower?

See the short poem posted above this, for explanation.

By that logic, Easter is just an excuse to spend hours decorating eggs and dressing your kids up in uncomfortable clothes in order to make them sit through some droll service they don't want to see.

So, name a holiday that isn't about capitalising on idiots. No, really, please do.

Learn about history, literature, and how to spell.

Hallowe'en is a pagan/Celtic festival marking the end of Summer, and also considered a festival of the dead in some areas.

It's a semi-decent excuse to hang out with friends where someone feels guilted into throwing a party, there's tons of candy, and you can wear pretty much whatever you want. I know it's far from the original meaning, but it's still fun.

*FAIL snip*

Your failure is epic on a whole nother level.

Guy Fawkes Day is on November 5th. Halloween is a Pagan holiday of Celtic origins.
