"Is Halo becoming generic?" Yes, from the story, characters and such.

But as much as I dislike the games, they know their game play and I applaud them for that.

I'd love to see what you're basing that on, there are far worse companies when it comes to milking a franchise. Square for example, how many Final Fantasy games are there?
This is about how Halo is generic not how Square Enix keeps re-releasing the same game about twice a year. I'm saying that Halo is blending in with most shooters. Final Fantasy is still unique for the fact that its pretty much a horrible idea that for some reason still sells surprisingly well.
Look back on my post, I edited it for the whole thing, for some reason it deleted half of your previous post.

You stated: "Then Bungie said "Hey lets remake this 2 more times, make a horrible RTS, then make a 3rd copy where you aren't the same character so we can get as much money out of this as possible." But then again thats what keeping them open and whats allowing them to buy more yachts and more drugs."

That didn't make my argument any less relevant, you stated they were milking the franchise to get more money. I gave an example of a company that has done it even more so.

Also, the "Drug and Yacht" thing is rather immature...
Yeah the last part was a bad choice on my part so I'll go back an edit that. You have a point that series milking is basically the foundation of gaming and thank you for making me realize this.
No worries, you do bring up some valid points. I am in no way a Halo or Bungie fan, but I will admit when they have done right etc.

No, Halo is not generic, nor is it average.

I've yet to see another "mediocre" Console FPS that offers the same level of awesome story telling and universe that Halo has.

Halo Killers ruined the genre for everyone.
I am also one of the few people who like the story.....but it would be much better without all of the contradicting canon.

Seriously, have you read any of the books? (Don't knock em' the ones by Eric Nylund are good, but stay away from both "The Flood" and "Cole Protocol") they completely clash.

Plus, where the hell were the Elites in Halo: ODST? That made no sense.

nah, but it's mixing things up in Reach to keep things fresh for its final (Bungie) installment

and people, it's not really witty to be like "only now?" or "becoming?"
name your favorite FPS first and then we can talk with like civilized folk =]
I'm sorry but I've heard Bungie say "Final" way to many times. Halo 3 was the FINAL halo. Then they changed it to "Final Halo involving Master Chief".

At the end of the day, I have a lot of fun playing Halo.

Any argument beyond that doesn't really matter to me.

EDIT: BTW, this is not Judgement101, I thought I'd make a point to mention that since I'm quoting a quote chain.

No, other games are being Halo clones, which make Halo look generic by comparison. Don't forget that it was Halo: Combat Evolved that revolutionized Fist Person Shooters forever.
Nah, I believe Halo:CE was just a dumbed down and slowed down version of Quake 3, which really revolutionized all FPS...Halo was just the first mainstream game that everyone that didn't play games as much bought into.

Is Halo generic .... no!

Are these threads getting old ... YES!

Halo created the foundation for a good FPS game. Pretty much every game since has been just like it just different graphics.
Ironic, you're part of the reason these treads exsist. You think Halo is still unique even thought its basically the same as every other shooter for the past 3-5 years
Yeah they set the standard for all the FPS's that are around today.

how did it revolutionize fps gaming?
maybe by bring the fps to the consoles that sorta kinda worked?
That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
yeah that's the only thing i can think of too. wait, halo MADE the xbox 360 (if it wasn't for halo and its MASSIVE SUCCESS the xbox would've failed).

I thought origionally the FPS genre was made popular by Doom and Duke Nukem. I'm guessing people think Halo made the genre what it is today though.

It's hard to "revolutionize" when nobody notices the changes you made.

Halo:CE's revolution owes a lot to its popularity, it made changes, but those wouldn't have mattered much if people didn't find the game good enough to take notice of those changes. (Like Quake 3)

Kind of like saying Christopher Columbus discovered America, sure the Vikings got there first, but they didn't tell anyone of the discovery and nobody cared what they had to say anyway.

Of course, all of what I just said assumes that Quake 3 really did have FPS revolution worthy gameplay, which I found doubtful, though I can't say for sure because I haven't played it, and that wouldn't be fair.

I hate Halo... i believe, very firmly that they stole their ideas from the Tribes series... look it up. 'Tribes: Vengeance' is one of my all time favorite games.
And Shakespeare "stole" most of his ideas from older tales. Heck, most of the stories in the Bible were based on much older stories from various other cultures.

There's a difference between "stealing" an idea and then packaging it to make a buck and improving upon things that have proven to work in the past. It's largely how the creative world works.

Halo:CE and Halo 2 were both for the original Xbox...

You're thinking of Half-life. Halo wasn't very revolutionary, it kinda was. Half-life 1 was the unkown king that took over gaming way ahead of time, sadly it's underappreciated.

I've never heard "Half Life" and "Under Appreciated" in the same sentence.

Yes Half Life made an ass load of revolutions, but Halo:CE modernized and perfected them.

You know there is a reason Halo is such a successful franchise.

Just remember that when you're all calling it generic, SOMETHING made it stand out.
