I hate Halo... i believe, very firmly that they stole their ideas from the Tribes series... look it up. 'Tribes: Vengeance' is one of my all time favorite games.
A far future video-game, about milions of guys in flying powerarmor, formed up in serveral clans fighting each other over power and territory...
=
Is the same as humanity, finding and fighting an alien religious covenant, who have deemed humanity hericy because we contradicts their beliefs of the "Great Journey", mainly fighting each other in massive ship-battles and small ground-assaults, consisting of lightly trained marines, a few spec-ops and a very small handfull of super-soldiers...

Of yeah, and you occasional encounter the fungus-like all-consuming race, called "The Flood", who once before opon a time, before time, forced an ancient alien empire (who was really human) to build massive weapons of mass destruction to eradicate "The Flood" and everthing else in the galaxy. (Which ofc failed)

Have even played any of the above mentioned games?
ok; it is obvious to me that you mis-intepreted my post i didnt say they stole the story of Tribes. i said that they stole the ideas. i would love to waste my time going into greater detail for you but i have more... intelligent matters to deal with.

Halo: Combat Evolved, is, and always will be, my favorite Halo. Truth and Reconciliation is still my very favorite mission to play through, on any Halo. I don't care much for Halo 2/3 or even ODST. But Combat Evolved will always remain one of my favorite FPS games. Ever.

Okay, that's going a bit far. Doom revolutionised FPS's, Halo just gave us a few new features. It's not the best or most influential game of all time.
No it isn't, because it's true. Halo revolutionized console gaming. Without Halo, I really doubt FPS's would have made it to this point. Halo was that bridge. It brought in regenerating health (which added a different kind of strategy to the game), vehicles, two weapon inventories, simplified controls, and a multiplayer and singleplayer that blew those before it out of the water.

Not to be a dick or anything, but when wasn't it? I've always seen it as a generic shooter with nothing that special or unique about it.

Is Halo generic .... no!

Are these threads getting old ... YES!

Halo created the foundation for a good FPS game. Pretty much every game since has been just like it just different graphics.
Fanboy. Doom created the foundation for good FPS games. And, I found this hilarious, when I was asking another Halo fanboy what was so great about it, everything he said made it sound like a rip off of Quake.
......... Yes .... I'm a fan boy blatently.

I found Halo to be annoying really. Had the game, played it through, beat it on legendary, felt like topping myself. But I must say, the person who said that driving feels good in the game probably needs a bullet.... Being in an indestructible car that you control with the camera was not a pleasant experience....

Halo's accomplishment was taking elements from successful predecessors and putting them into one package. There's almost nothing original about it, though

So many people seem to forget that the first truly popular console FPS game with an amazingly fun Multiplayer mode that was leaps and bounds better than anything before it was Golden Eye for the N64. Simple controls, a tank, etc.

Plus if you want games with vehicles you again can look at Tribes (had regen health, too) or you can go all the way back to Terminator Future Shock in like `95. Granted they weren't on the console, but yea

I think over time the Halo series is really losing its appeal. I could name about 5 games right away with the same premise of an out-door shooter with a loosely relivant story: Haze, Far Cry, Crysis (basically every game made by Crytech), Lost Planet, and Just Cause 2
Wow Just Cause 2?? You are comparing an open world, sandbox, third person shooter to a linear FPS.

Such as spending all of your day on a forum, where you can tell people how much better than they, you really are.

Good job!

In my opinion, Halo: Combat Evolved wasn't generic, but the more recent instalments have become the generic FPS. I'm not sure why it is. I suppose it's because the other recent shooters have the ability to sprint, take cover, cook grenades, all these little features that make Halo seem like it's running on the basics.

Driving was a pleasant experience *gets bullet in the head*
But seriously though, and of course this is my opinion, I enjoyed the driving in Halo.
I'm not really sure what you mean by indestructible though, if it were not for the fact you said you had played it on legendary I would have sworn you had played it on the lowest difficulty setting.

I adressed what I said earlier, read previous posts before you post.

It has been a while, but I don't remember being blown up by anything unless I was in a tank or a banshee-thingy. The Warthog though I don't seem to remember exploding? I also remember driving it into other people driving one when I got bored.

I might be wrong, thanks for picking me up on that.

Halo driving is sort of interesting. Actually is more interesting that you can stand driving. I get the idea of it but I guess I've never taken the time to master it so I guess it's just my laziness keeping me from figuring it out.

Halo 1 MAY have been tolerable. They certainly didn't need the sequel, but the 3rd crossed the line and just turned it into another moneymilked title that spawned other bastard offspring trying to copy its moneymilking success.

And don't get me started on the Halo kiddies playing on XLive cussing at you every time you pwn their stupid little asses.

I just don't understand why everyone is saying Halo:CE revolutionized console fps. I have never seen its control set up used ANYWHERE else and it barely did anything besides make a small company noticable.
